Platinum. Best in Conservation & Sustainability Focus πŸ†πŸŒ

This past weekend Haka Game Park stood among the nation's finest in tourism and hospitality. We walked away with the highest honour.

Not silver. Not gold,

Platinum.

This award is not just a recognition of what we do. It is validation of why we do it. Protecting our Ramsar wetland. Restoring our woodlands. Educating the next generation. Proving that conservation and community can thrive together , right here in the heart of Harare.

Did you know? Haka Game Park is named after this extraordinary creature. 🦑

Haka (or Inkhaka in Ndebele) means pangolin, one of the most unique and endangered animals on the planet. This gentle, scaly mammal is a master of defense, rolling into an impenetrable ball when threatened. Its diet consists almost entirely of ants and termites, which it laps up with a long, sticky tongue. It also swallows small stones and sand to help grind up food in its stomach, a fact that has led to the dangerous misconception that pangolins contain gold inside them.

In Zimbabwean culture, the pangolin is regarded as a sacred and powerful animal. Traditionally, it was reserved as a gift for chiefs and was believed to bring good fortune, rain, and spiritual protection. Some traditions hold that possessing pangolin scales can bring luck or ward off evil spirits. While these beliefs speak to the deep cultural reverence for the animal, they have also unfortunately contributed to its decline.

Sadly, the pangolin is now the world's most trafficked mammal.

At Haka Game Park, we carry the pangolin's name as a daily reminder of our mission: to protect the vulnerable and preserve our natural heritage for generations to come.
