Rome wasn’t built in a day.
If you are like me, then this saying is quite familiar to you. Indeed, Rome wasn’t built in a day. It took years of consistent strategizing, hard work and trying again when faced with failures or obstacles.
Another saying that I know quite well is, “Make hay while the sun shines,” I remember my sixth grade teacher loved this saying so much that she wrote it out on a Manila card and taped it on the wall just over the classroom door. This meant that we would read the saying daily whenever we walked out of the classroom. She wanted the saying to be tattooed into our subconscious. And now, over 18 years later, I still remember that saying vividly.
She would always say, work hard now for the future that you want. And today I want to encourage you to Sow, the seeds today, to reap a bountiful harvest tomorrow.
Sometimes, we get discouraged because we aren’t seeing the results that we want presently. If you’re a decorator like me, you might be trying your hand at making balloon garlands or floral bouquets and they might not be looking like the 5 star garlands plastered all over Facebook.
You might have a vision of being a cake decorator but your cake baking skills are simply letting you down.
You might have a vision of a big wedding but you can’t event seem to raise a dollar towards the lobola or roora money.
Despite all these hurdles, you need to soldier on and continue taking small steps towards achieving your goals.
I remember, there was a time when I wouldn’t post my work on my social media or WhatsApp statuses because I thought it was too substandard. I would look at my setups critically and feel embarrassed. That was until I changed my perspective and I realized that In order for my business to grow and for my skills to grow, I needed to be comfortable with my results and be confident enough to share my work. How else was I going to grow my business if no one saw any of my work? I realized that even the gurus of the industry started somewhere and they allowed themselves to continue despite their imperfections.
As we start this beautiful week, take stock of yourself and your goals. Encourage yourself for start where you are, with what you have. I guarantee you that with consistent action, you will see radical change in your life.
