clearly remember the first show I had in Lusaka. It was at The Moon city Night Club where the yearly Miss Greater Kudu was taking place. It was a scary moment for me because everybody around me looked so professional. I was just a young Rapper with a big dream from the Copperbelt town of Ndola.
Miss Greater Kudu was a modeling contest that show cased some of Lusaka hottest ladies competing for the sole crown on the night. During the breaks when models went to change outfits, The DJ/MC Then Eddie Groove would call upon entertainers to keep the crowds entertained. The categories of entertainers ranged from Dancers, Lip sync artists, Rappers and more. Even if I was clearly registered to perform that night, the host skipped my name so many times. I remained back stage for hours with not even a drink.
It was not until two groups chickened out that I remained the only option to perform. I remember Eddie Groove coming back stage and asking me what my name was and which song I was going to Lip Sync to. I told him I was going to rap live to an instrumental and needed my microphone on. I told him I was a freestyle Rap artist and my name was MC SU***DE.
When I went on stage, I remember asking the crowd to say Suicide⦠only about 10 people responded. But when I started Rapping, the crowd went wild and could not stop screaming out my name over and over.
Mr. Felix Nyambe from The Zambia Daily wrote an outstanding feature on me. He stated in this article and I quote, the young man sent the crowd wild as he impressed them with his Rap skillsā¦.End of quote.
I later joined hands with another top Zambian Rap artist named Level KC (Kelvin Sampa), who is now Member of Parliament (MP) for Kasama Central Constituency. We had a few tours where we travelled to Botswana where we performed in the border town of Lobaste and also parts of South Africa.
We later went on to be TV Hosts on ZNBC where we featured on a number of Television shows which included, Flashy Kids, Kids International and Teen Time. Later I co hosted another television show with a good friend Michael Shumba and veteran broadcaster Mr. Alec Mugala. The show was called the
V-Track.
I later went on to record my first Rap Single titled Love Has No Color 1994 where I featured Mr. Joseph Nkhoma of The group New Age on the album version and Chilu Lemba on the Remix.
Chilu Lemba and I had a great career together. We also had shows around Zambia together and we have also performed in South Africa.
Am getting back in the studio after so many years where I am due to record some songs with a number of old friends. I will also feature my little daughter who is a rapper on some tracks.
You can leave the game, but the game can never leave you.
