2013 YOUTH DAY MESSAGE FOR ALL
By Mubita C. Nawa
A new moment has come upon us. We have sledged along the coast line of many promises by many leaders. Often these promises are sincere but the result is always the same; youths left out of decision making, youths unemployed, youths disenfranchised and ostracized. In some cases young people have been excommunicated from communities and societies they belong to just because they were misunderstood.
We can't blame leaders alone. We must also blame ourselves. How long shall we stand there with a beggars-bows in our hands? How long shall we reduce ourselves to paupers and to instruments of violence? How long shall we strike over a delayed allowance when we can create a future that is brighter for us and our nation?
The time has come for young people to arise and be united regardless of our race, color and creed. We must overcome political boundaries until we find that common thread that defines us. We must emulate our fallen comrades who dared fate and sacrificed it all for us to enjoy the freedoms we now have though they be limited at times.
This years theme "Opportunity for Youth through Enterprise" is as crystal clear as any Devine order. It is time for the young to come out of their comfort zones and start creating wealth through enterprise. Young people are no longer just future leaders, they are leaders. Young people must no longer just be employees, they must aspire to be employers.
Tap into the youth fund, tap into CEEEC, tap into micro financing, tap into your uncles capital (with permission and a business plan), but above all tap into yourself and your God. Together you and God make the greatest capital.
Start small and be willing to look like a fool. You are well able. Sacrifice a bit and don't let the pursuit of luxury, style and swag take over your life. No journey starts by running.
From this year onwards, be a co-pilot in the journey to greatness. Don't be taken for a fool because you are a fool no longer.
Happy youth day and let this journey to enterprenureship be the most fulfilling escapade you have ever embarked on. Remember no capital is too small. And the reason it's called capital is because it can grow.
