Procrastination
You have a dream to bring to reality; You want to visit a friend or family member; You have a report to submit; You have some daily task that you need to get done; or you have an errand to run but you feel you can do it later. Many would say they at one time found themselves in such a situation. Putting off a task that needs to get done is called procrastination.
Procrastination, if it becomes a habit may have adverse effects on ones life course.
So how can we overcome it?
There are many suggestions on how we can overcome postponing tasks. Here are just a few:
-Set goals you can reach.
Setting smaller achievable tasks could make it easier to have them done - whether it's a house chore or a big dream to bring to reality.
- Make a task enjoyable.
It's been observed that people who do a seemingly boring task while listening to music for example, are more likely to complete their task. Music is just one example. But you could have your own way of making a task enjoyable.
- Keep yourself motivated.
Starting your day with some motivation could put you in the right mood for completing a task.
- Hold yourself accountable.
Asking a friend or family member to track on your progress could give you one more reason to do a task "now" rather than later because you know someone will be there to ask about it even if you know you're doing it for your own good.
- Reward yourself.
Yes! There is no harm in celebrating yourself when you finish an important task on time or before the due date.
- Self discipline.
It takes a lot of self control to not put off a task.
We all can learn!
