ARMY NABS ZESCO EMPLOYEE POSING AS AN ARMY OFFICER

The Zambia Army has apprehended a 32-year-old ZESCO employee, identified as Amutike Simunji, in Chongwe District for allegedly impersonating an Army Officer and unlawfully possessing military uniforms and tactical equipment.

The arrest was made this afternoon during routine patrols conducted by the Army Military Police as part of the Zambia Army’s continued efforts to ensure that military uniforms are not misused for criminal activities, in line with the provisions of the Security Act.

Mr Simunji was apprehended at the ZESCO offices in Chongwe, where he was found with an Army combat uniform inside his Mercedes-Benz vehicle, registration number CAJ 225.

Following the arrest, a joint search operation conducted by the Zambia Army Military Police and the Zambia Police Service at Mr Simunji’s residence in Dam area of Chongwe District led to the discovery of several military regalia.

The items recovered included two pairs of combat uniforms, an Army jersey pullover, tactical knee and elbow pads, a pair of desert boots, black military boots, a camouflage bag, two jungle combat hats, and rank insignia for a Second Lieutenant.

Additionally, the search uncovered ZESCO service cables measuring 20 metres, 26 metres, and 65 metres respectively.

The Zambia Army is once again warning industries, manufacturers, and tailors to refrain from producing military uniforms and related attire without authorisation.

The Army reiterates that it will not tolerate the misuse of military attire by members of the public for criminal purposes and to this effect, it will not relent but intensify its operations to stop the vice.

The Zambia Army has also expressed gratitude to members of the public who continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing information to the Military Police about individuals posing as military officers in society.

Mourners gathered at the United Church of Zambia, Kabundi Congregation in solemn reflection to pay their condolences to former Member of Parliament, Mr. Mathews Nkuwa following the tragic loss of his son, Mr Maposa Nkhuwa.

The funeral drew a cross section of leaders and community members who came to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family during this painful time including Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development, Hon Charles Milupi, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon Chipoka Mulenga,His Worship the Mayor Of Mr Johnson Kang'ombe, Chingola District Commissioner Mr Howard Kamwandi, Ndola District Commissioner Ms Precious Njekwa and Chingola Municipal Council Town Clerk Mrs Namukolo Kalufyanya among others.

A heavy silence hung over the gathering as friends, family, and community members offered words of comfort and support to the grieving family.

In his remarks, Hon Milupi emphasized the importance of unity and peace, urging the community to stand together in moments of sorrow. “Let us live in harmony, be our brother’s and sister’s keepers, and find comfort in God’s word,” he said.

Hon Mulenga also called for continued prayer and compassion for the bereaved family, noting that this was a time when they needed God’s embracing love the most. “We commit the family to God’s unfailing and comforting embrace,” he said, encouraging all to uphold them in prayer and unwavering support.

The gathering served as a reminder of the strength found in community, faith, and shared humanity during times of profound loss.

The Department of Immigration has successfully removed one hundred and thirty-eight (138) illegal immigrants from the country following a mass removal operation conducted from 28th February to 2nd March, 2026.

Those removed were one hundred and twenty-two (122) Burundians, six (6) Rwandans, five (5) Tanzanians, three (3) Congolese nationals, and two (2) Ugandans. The majority were apprehended during a clean-up operation conducted in Lusaka on 15th February, 2026, during which one hundred and ten (110) persons were detained for various immigration offences.

According to immigration PR chief officer Namati Nshinka disclosed that Some of the individuals had paid court-imposed fines following convictions, while others were removed without prosecution.

Zambia Army Military Police yesterday launched a coordinated operation in Lusaka to confiscate military regalia from traders and members of the public.
