New for people with Sound/DJ Equipment for hire. These guys seem to be working as a syndicate and they have called me 4 times on different numbers with the same but similar stories. Their story goes like this, "we are looking for a DJ to hire sound urgently as the guy we had has dropped us on the last minutes and we are doing the event at a school (everytime I got the call the school and area was different and so was the event type) and we need a replacement DJ within next hour or 2." They always mention a high amount of money that they have on their budget to lure you in on their scam.
The 1st time I got the call I went to the school they mentioned to meet up with them and when I got there and called them their phone was no longer going through. My conclusion is that they were waiting somewhere in hiding expecting a bakkie or car with a trailer carrying the Sound Equipment to Rob it on arrival. Luckily I went there with my private vehicle and that ruined their plan.
My blunder here was that I allowed a so-called customer to convince me to go to them without a deposit which is what I always request to confirm the booking because of the amount of money they were promising to pay me on arrival. With their calls that followed everytime I tell them I want a deposit upfront they drop the call and the last one when I told them I can't help them they asked if I don't know somebody else who can help them, I told them no and they dropped the call. I clearly wouldn't want my DJ friends to go through such nonsense.
Please share this story to everyone in the industry so these guy's can fall apart and hopefully somebody catches them and deals with them.
