🕊️ IN MEMORY OF ELIZABETH "TSONTSO" MOSELAKGOMO - 38 🕊️
It is with deep sadness that we confirm the tragic murder of Elizabeth Moselakgomo, 38, who worked in Centre Management at Festival Mall, Kempton Park.
Elizabeth was murdered last week while doing what she loved most - jogging. Her body was found in Rhodesfield, near the Gautrain Station, behind the Protea Hotel - left in the bush, partially clothed in her sports gear, with visible bruises.
She left her child at home thinking she would return. She never did.
She is one of four women whose bodies have been found in the Kempton Park / R21 / Rhodesfield area in the last two months. While the community fears a serial killer, SAPS says investigations are ongoing and a multidisciplinary task team has been formed to establish if the cases are linked. Police have urged women not to jog or walk alone in isolated areas.
A Call for Truth and Respect:
In this painful moment, some on social media are quick to point fingers at foreign nationals. Let us be factual and respectful.
Gender-Based Violence is a South African crisis. Statistics show that every day, women are murdered in South Africa, and the majority of perpetrators are known to the victims and are South African men. Blaming foreigners does not bring justice for Elizabeth, nor does it protect our sisters, mothers and daughters. What kills women in this country is patriarchy, femicide, and the normalization of violence against women.
Elizabeth was a mother, a worker, a runner, a beloved community member.
May her soul rest in peace. May her child be comforted. May justice be served.
