GBV has finally been declared a national crisis in South Africa and what an incredible step forward that is. It shows the power of voices coming together and refusing to stay quiet.
But even with this win, today we still show up.
We still stand for the thousands of women who’ve suffered in silence and for every survivor finding her strength again.
If you can’t join the shutdown, at 12 p.m. today, women across the country will take part in a silent lie down for every woman and child who never made it home. If you can, take a moment to join. If you can’t, pause wherever you are, share a post, or talk about it.
Your voice matters, every bit counts.
GBV has affected far too many lives mothers, daughters, sisters, friends. It’s not something that happens “out there.” It happens here, in our homes, our schools, our communities.
As a woman, a mother, and a South African, I’ll keep standing, keep speaking, and keep believing that together we can continue to change history.
