CRYPT ARTIST PROFILE

The final artist through the portal on Saturday is Luke Young, a co-founder and resident of ALTR. Off the back of key nights across the country, this Durban local is primed to bring cutting edge sounds to the Crypt.

Behind the decks, he is constantly in pursuit of the tension and release that shifts energy on the dancefloor. Drawing from the full range of his collection, he favours moody atmospheres and sci fi soundscapes driven by tribal rhythms.

CRYPT ARTIST PROFILE: Craig Placid

For the main event on Saturday, are excited to showcase one of South Africa’s most forward-thinking techno selectors.

Placid. Plac-id. Adjective. Meaning: “calm and peaceful, with little movement or activity”. As far as DJ names go this one might describe Craig’s personality, but when it comes to his music, it’s completely contrarian.

Over a career spanning 12 years Craig Placid has created a sound that’s best described as deeply complex, evolving techno, characterised by hypnotic rhythms and driven by multi-dimensional beats.

When he DJ’s he’s all about taking the crowd on a journey. And his favourite part of the whole experience is “being able to create the soundtrack to someone’s night, presenting them with a selection that could essentially change the way they think about dance music”. It’s a lofty ideal, but one that one that he’s entirely able to deliver on.

If you’re looking for proof, look no further than TOY TOY on a Friday night. As one of their resident DJ’s he’s helped the brand establish itself as one of the premier underground dance music nights in South Africa.

The next artist at Crypt is a founder and resident of ALTR, originally hailing from Bloemfontein. LoTech has been active behind the decks for the past 17 years, playing the country’s top club nights before making a considerable impact on the Durban scene with several residencies after relocating in 2015. Favouring futurism and synthesis driven by tight beats and progression, LoTech is sure to transport the crowd to another dimension.
