Lead Graphic Designer: UP A TONE Events Group
Primary Focus: UP A TONE Events Agency (80% Workflow). Secondary Support: LOFT AT NINE (The Industrial Venue 10%). UP BEAT AV 10%
Location: Pretoria/Johannesburg (Hybrid: 1–2 days office-based in Pretoria)
Reporting Structure: Directed by Group Management; workflow prioritized by Agency deadlines.
Core Purpose of the Role
You are the internal creative engine for a high-octane events group. Your primary mission is to serve as the lead designer for UP A TONE Events Agency, producing the sophisticated visual language required to win corporate pitches and define the client experience. You are responsible for the entire visual journey—from the first digital touchpoint to the final physical venue installation and branding.
The Role
This is a high-variety, fast-paced role for a designer who can pivot seamlessly between corporate precision and creative flair. You aren't just "making things look pretty"; you are translating complex client objectives into immersive visual concepts. While the majority of your focus (80%) is dedicated to the Agency, you will provide the creative backbone for the associated venue and AV entities to ensure a world-class standard across the entire group.
Key Responsibilities
1. High-Impact Creative Strategy (UP A TONE)
Mood Board Mastery: Interpret complex client briefs and brand guidelines to create world-class mood boards that dictate the tone, texture, and aesthetic direction of an event.
Proposal & Pitch Design: Lead the design of our pitch decks. While we utilize Canva for internal collaboration and speed, you are expected to elevate these decks far beyond standard templates to ensure our proposals are visually superior to the competition.
Identity Fusion: Expertly merge high-end corporate brand kits with unique event themes, establishing bespoke color palettes, font pairings, and iconography for every project.
2. Technical Production & Ex*****on
Print-Ready Perfection: Full ownership of the "final check." You must prep complex files with correct bleeds, crop marks, and CMYK settings for large-format printing and event signage.
Supplier Liaison: Communicate directly with print and signage vendors to ensure the final physical product matches your digital vision.
Quality Control: Rigorous proofreading and vectorization of assets to ensure zero errors on all printed materials.
3. Venue & Technical Support (LOFT AT NINE & UP BEAT AV)
Operational Design: Create essential venue collateral including luxury menu designs, booking packages, and digital brochures for LOFT AT NINE.
Marketing & Social Media: Design high-conversion social media assets and advertising material to drive venue and AV inquiries.
On-Site Content: Design screen-ready assets for UP BEAT AV, including holding slides and branded master slides for live event presentations.
4. Spatial & Venue Integration
Floor Layouts: Utilize venue knowledge to draw accurate, scaled floor plans for corporate events, ensuring guest flow and safety compliance.
Spatial Visualization (Bonus): Ability to create 3D mock-ups of stages and sets, providing a functional blueprint for our technical crews and a "vision" for our clients.
Software & Technical Skillset
Expert Level: Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator & InDesign are essential).
Collaborative Tools: Highly skilled in Canva. You understand how to build professional, editable structures that allow the broader team to work efficiently without sacrificing design integrity.
Production Knowledge: Deep understanding of large-format printing, substrate types, and technical specs for event branding.
Requirements & Experience
High-End Portfolio: Must demonstrate creative agency-level work. Experience in event production, media houses, or specialized design agencies is essential.
Adaptability: The ability to move rapidly between different brand "personalities"—from buttoned-up corporate to raw industrial.
Proximity: Residing in the Pretoria/Johannesburg area for weekly office collaboration (Pretoria-based office).
The Selection Process
We are looking for a top-tier creative. Our interview process is rigorous and includes a multi-part practical design assessment. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to execute real-world briefs—ranging from a high-stakes Agency pitch concept to a rapid-turnaround venue asset—to prove technical skill, speed, and creative logic in practice.
Salary
Compensation is competitive and tailored to your professional background, portfolio excellence and proven track record.
