This year, our Jazz Band is proud to share the stage with Asanda Asa Mqiki.

Asanda is an award-winning South African vocalist and composer from Port Elizabeth, celebrated for her rich blend of jazz, soul, funk, R&B, and traditional South African sounds. Rooted in the choral traditions of the Eastern Cape, she has become known for her powerful voice, emotional depth, and dynamic stage presence.

She has shared the stage with leading artists including Sibongile Khumalo, Freshlyground, The Soil, Zahara, and Simphiwe Dana, captivating audiences both locally and abroad in countries such as Sweden, Australia, and Mozambique.

Her artistry has earned her numerous accolades, including the Standard Bank Gold Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival and the Eastern Cape MEC Award for Best Individual Performer. With every performance, Mqiki continues to affirm her place as one of South Africa’s most compelling contemporary jazz voices.

Asanda will be performing a composition from our very own Mr Rix. We look forward to two wonderful evenings of jazz music from all the schools who are involved.

We had two fantastic performances at our Junior and Senior Music Evenings in Term 2. A big thank you to the participating schools from Charlo Primary School, Summerwood Primary School Music and Greenwood Primary School for bringing along your various ensembles over these two evenings!
