Our voice department, led by Mx Blaine Josephs, represented the Music Centre widely and beautifully on various platforms during the month of May.

On 18 May, our Children’s- and Adult Choirs performed at the Legato Choral Festival and Awards, at Curro Durbanville High School. This was our first time performing at this festival and what a wonderful experience!

Our Adult Choir went on to perform at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod on 20 May, held at Durbanville High School, where they achieved 74.3%! ✨

And on 24 May, three of our voice learners, namely Ezri Hansen (Pop), Yael du Plessis (Jazz) and Tarryn Pegram (Pop) participated in the Talento Sangkompetisie / Singing Competition, held at WA Joubert Primary School. We are proud to announce that all three singers have made it through to the semi-final round of the competition! πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸŽ€πŸ‘πŸΌ

Congratulations to all our choristers, singers and Mx Josephs; we are exceptionally proud of you! 🎢✨

"This is an excellent band! Right up there with the most advanced bands. Congratulations!" ✨

We are filled with excitement at the exceptional commentary and performances of the Senior Wind Band at the recent WindWorx Fanfare and Stellenbosch Eisteddfod.

At the Fanfare, on 17 May, the Wind Band achieved Triple Gold with special mention made of Hannah Purchase on the xylophone! And at the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod, on 24 May, they once again made an impressive mark on the adjudicators and achieved Cum Laude. πŸ…πŸŽΆβœ¨

As a Music Centre, we are incredibly proud of this dynamic and tenaciously talented group of musicians led by Mr Cameron Hofmeester.

Congratulations to each one of you! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸš€βœ¨

Together with the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) , we mourn the sudden passing of their beloved Executive Director and Chief Curator, Koyo Kouoh.

Some of our staff were fortunate to meet Koyo at the breakfast walkabout when we were introduced to the ground-breaking exhibition, When We See Us, in February 2023, in collaboration with the WCED. She warmly welcomed and inspired us and with a calm voice reminded that the Zeitz MOCAA belongs to each of us and that we visit often, and keep the arts fully alive in our institutions.

Koyo was recently appointed to lead the 61st Venice Biennale, making history as the first African woman to hold this role. What a feast that would have been. ✨

With great love and gratitude, we remember her extraordinary contribution to the Zeitz MOCAA and the art world.

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to Koyo’s family and loved ones, and to Liesl Hartman and the Zeitz MOCAA team.
