What if one of our most valuable tools for surviving drought is right beneath our feet? At the Southern African Geophysical Association conference, taking place from 12 to 15 October 2026 in Cape Town, keynote speaker Dr Ricky Murray shares insights from more than four decades exploring exactly that question.

A pioneer of managed aquifer recharge in southern Africa, Ricky’s work takes groundwater beyond simply finding and pumping it. It looks at how aquifers can be deliberately replenished, essentially creating underground water reserves that can strengthen water security when surface supplies come under pressure.

If you work in groundwater, geophysics, water management or simply want to understand how we build greater water resilience in a changing climate, this is a keynote worth hearing.

Turn your conference into a week of practical learning.

The South African Geophysical Association 2026 offers three pre-conference workshops on 12 October and two post-conference workshops on 16 October, giving you the opportunity to build practical skills before and after the main conference.

Before the conference, explore advanced inversion workflows using SimPEG and Geoscience Analyst Pro, strengthen your wireline logging interpretation skills, or discover modern radiometric data processing techniques in Oasis montaj.

After the conference, learn how integrated interpretation of FTG, magnetic, EM and geological datasets can unlock a more complete understanding of the subsurface, or explore how drone geophysics is being applied across Africa, from survey planning and data acquisition to exploration.

Led by experienced practitioners, these small-group workshops focus on practical workflows, discussion and techniques you can apply in your own projects.
