Photography To Remember Hi! I’m a Cape Town photographer creating relaxed, enjoyable and natural photos for maternity, newborn, families, and special occasions.

It is incredible to watch how the light changes during our winter season. Our session started off sunny, warm and slightly misty.

As the sunset behind the clouds, the beautiful colours of pinks and blues cast over us, creating a cool-toned colour palette.

Some photographers would edit the pinks and blues to match the warmth of the start of the session, but personally, I love the difference, and it feels as though we shot at more than one location. Winter sunsets are incredible, and my clients and I had an amazing time together.

*Trigger Warning* - Loss and Grief

We had scheduled their shoot several months in advance, once the family was all together.

Prior to the shoot, my client informed me that her grandfather had Alzheimer's.

As someone who grew up living in older homes (my parents ran the homes), I was fully prepared and showed them extra grace and kindness during the shoot, as I have some understanding of the diseases. He was such a lovely man and gave us all smiles and cracked jokes, and was in a beautiful mental space for the shoot.

Once the images were ready, the client informed me that her grandfather had passed away 1 week after the shoot, and she was incredibly grateful to have scheduled the shoot and have these photographs and memories with their grandfather and her children with their great-grandfather.

It was an honour to have met him and watch how his family rallied around him, loved him, not knowing what was around the corner.

Winter sunsets are so dramatic, and I love them.

Don't be scared of a winter family shoot, it can be the most magical sunset that Cape Town has to offer.

Yes, sometimes we don't see the sun, but the drama the clouds provide, and the magical diffused light, is equally as beautiful.

Apparently, this winter we are in for a "dry" winter, so this year is your sign to book your family shoot and not wait until summer or next year!

3 TIPS on how kids have fun during an early morning winters sunrise shoot?

Tip 1: BLANKETS - and lots of them. Not only to keep them warm but to pretend to be batman, a princess train. Games include who can get their blanket higher while running to Aunty Amy, is always a favourite.

Tip 2: SNACKS - Need I say more? An early morning snack is always a treat, especially when you can eat in the car.

Tip 3: HOT CHOCOLATE Bribary. While I am not a fan of bribary in these situations it works like a bomb. Kids here hot chocolate and I ask them how much they love it, the smiles are contagious.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

It was one of the windiest evening in Cape Town and my clients were here on their babymoon and it was their last day. We decided to go for it and do the shoot becuase nowhere was safe from the wind.

Beautiful sunset light, big waves and there were so many kite surfers, the sky was full of them.

If you were me, would you have edited the kite surfers out of the images?

Family reunions are always such a special time — full of laughter, chaos, hugs between cousins, aunties, and uncles.

There’s something so beautiful about capturing families just being themselves: the big group photos, the in-between candid moments and fun interations.

If you’re planning a family reunion, consider hiring a photographer to document those memories properly becuase you dont want anyone missing, just becuase they took the picture.

The wind was gusty, but the light was beautiful for their maternity shoot. The colours worked so well together. The forest is just off a main road towards kommetjie, it may not look like much when you drive along the road but it is simply magical to a photographer.
