Yesterday, we had the privilege of experiencing and being part of our very first Celebration of Life at the beautiful Farmhouse Hotel in Langebaan.
Being so accustomed to living in wedding mode, I must admit my anxiety was definitely present as we navigated these unfamiliar waters. Sad tears, heavy hearts, and grieving faces are all things an event planner works so hard to avoid, so having them as part of the event itself felt like an unconventional offering.
But that is not to say there was no joy.
The joy overflowed as family and friends gathered to celebrate a beautiful woman whose life had touched so many. Their love, admiration, and appreciation were evident in abundance. What an incredible privilege it was to witness love in one of its rawest forms — grief and loss.
As the service began, the sunny skies suddenly let loose their tears, and a soft, warm rain fell briefly from above. Just for a moment. It felt like a message from heaven itself before the clouds parted and the sun returned to warm the chilly winter’s day. Moments like these remind me that small blessings exist all around us.
There is something strangely profound about never meeting your client and knowing you never will, yet getting to hear their stories, interact with those who adored them, and discover their magic through the eyes of the people who loved them most. There is something deeply enlightening and beautiful in that experience.
To her daughters, thank you for entrusting me with such an important task — ensuring your mom received the beautiful farewell she deserved. It was unfamiliar territory and, at times, a little daunting for me, but I know it was infinitely harder for the two of you. I hope you find the peace, comfort, and light that your lovely mom would have wanted for you.
Wishing everyone a beautiful long weekend.
Hug your loved ones a little tighter today. 🤍
