TOP WEDDING BUDGET MISTAKES BRIDES MAKE
Colin Miller
We're revealing the top must-read budget mistakes bride make
throughout the wedding planning process!
Be Willing To Make Compromises
Prioritize things you want and things you need. You need a wedding dress, but you want a custom gown designed by Vera herself. You need to feed your guests, but you want to feed them 10 courses of Jean-George Vongerichten’s finest creations. Your wants may feel like needs, but let’s keep things in perspective.

Stick To Your Budget
Speaking of wants vs. needs, it’s important to create a budget and stick to it. That Lanvin dress might fit like a dream, but if it’s ten thousand too many, keep looking. Better yet, ask your bridal consultant to only pull dresses within your price range so your heart isn’t broken.

Provide Enough Transportation
Transportation is often an aspect of the wedding that’s overlooked by couples. If your event is being held in a remote location where cabs are nowhere to be found, transportation should be a priority. Your guests shouldn’t have to worry about DD’s and getting home safely on your wedding day.

Scale Your Wedding
It’s understandable to want the best of the best on your wedding day and to share it with your friends, family and neighbors. But if you’re on a tight budget, it’s probably best to keep things on the smaller side.

Allocate Budget For Lighting
What’s the point of spending thousands of dollars on centerpieces, sequined linens, monogrammed napkins and a fabulous wedding cake if your guests can’t see all of the gorgeous details? Set aside money for lighting, even if it’s just pin-spots and candles or string lights. This element can seriously change the look of your venue!

DIY Wisely
Every girl loves a good challenge when it comes to crafts, but be wise with the DIY projects you choose. The cost of supplies can add up quickly and turn out to be more expensive than store bought items.

Choose The Right Venue
Unless you’re looking to customize almost every element of your wedding, seek a venue that offers more than just an empty space. Look for a venue with a great on-site caterer, and check out the tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware and cakes the caterer previously designed.

Find A Balance With Catering Staff
This is a tricky one, as too many staff on-site can rack up unnecessary costs, while not enough staff will cause delay in food times, cake cutting and so on. Find a good balance and know that service is one thing your guests will take away from your celebration.
