Kwa Mlungu Bakery Pty Ltd is a company which was established in 2024 under a Non Profit Organisation (NPO) called Kemit Associations, with Mandla Khumalo as the Kwa Mlungu Bakery Director and Chairperson. The bakery is situated at 276 Mbongolo Crescent, Ecaleni Section in Thembisa. The 41-year-old baker can effectively run his business as he has a Business Studies Certificate from Unisa and basic Stock-Keeping Studies from Damelin, and is working as an Inventory Controller.
In about a year in business, Kwa Mlungu Bakery Pty Ltd has managed to attract sponsors like Finmark Trust, Mintfresh, Zakhaa, Coca-Cola, Family Tree Holding Pty Ltd, and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development to be on board.
Family Tree Holding Pty Ltd is the brains behind the establishment, under the leadership of Sipho Mthembu. Kwa Mlungu is also part of 12 Spaza shops in Thembisa, which were trained by Zakhaa in digital payment, empowered by the Gauteng Department of Economic Development and also given stock to grow the business.
"We've grown from strength to strength. We're being recognised by the SABC News as a thriving entrepreneur. We are also introducing food on our menus as Kwa Mlungu Dining. Bread prices have gone up by R3 now. We sell at R13 each bread, buns R10, scones R10 and biscuits. We also sell delicious food like burgers, several colour meals, ribs and wings. Kwa Mlungu bakery is recognised in the community of Thembisa as a Thembisa pioneer in digital payment," says Mandla.
With their Electronic Funds Transfer (EFTs), customers can also buy buckets of
scones, biscuits, and muffins for R550 each.
