Recently we celebrated my twin girls second birthday. Since their first birthday was a charitable event we decided to go all out for their second birthday and have a memorable event for them.
Theme:
I've had my mind set on a Dr Seuss theme for as long as I can remember. The thought of having my girls dress up as Thing One and Thing Two was the cutest thing to me but growing up and them having their own personalities I had to go with something more fitting.
We (well I) decided on a vintage farmyard theme after going back and forth with overdone toddler themes. Don't get me wrong I love frozen and fairies but it wasn't the vision I had for their party and if anyone knows me they know that I can't do anything small or simple. Some people asked why I chose such a "mature" theme but I think everything has balance and you just need to know to interpret themes and how to bring them to life.
The planning process:
We started planning their party in January, we have such a big family so we had invitations delivered a month prior to the party to give everyone enough time to RSVP and send out the twins wish list.
Gift registry:
For some reason I could not find an appropriate store to do a toddler gift registry so I improvised and did a wish list on the Reggies/ Toys R us website. Now for some this might seem a bit extreme but I did not want my kids receiving an endless string on baby dolls and barbies, I opted for age appropriate educational toys, activity and art sets instead.
Venue:
We're lucky enough to live on a massive property so what better place to host a party than in the comfort of your own home. This saved us on the cost of a venue as well as having to travel with two little ones and a truck full of goodies.
Set up:
The setup was your classic farm layout, with hay bales and wooden pallets, benches, quilted picnic blankets and hand made marquees. We had a vintage distressed photo wall that set the tone for the wonderful memories we'd create in front of them.
Entertainment:
So in order for us to fully execute our theme we had to have farm animals, no farm is complete without them right? The petting farm lasted for an hour and a half, they come to your venue with a variety of Farm animals and your guest can interact with them and feed them there's also a pony for the kids to ride on and the birthday girls or boys get to bottle feed the animals. The kids had an absolute blast with them it was the most adorable thing. In addition to that we had a jumping castle with ball pit to keep the kids well entertained on their sugar rush and the adults kept busy playing giant Jenga and dominos.
Catering:
We tried to keep the hassle of catering to a minimum. Having done all the work ourselves we wanted to save on the additional work by not serving elaborate lunch meals. Our set up included a candy floss station, sweet buffet, cake table, waffle bar and popcorn station. The lunch table included various savoury snacks and hot dog station filled with toppings, salads and various sauces, our "watering hole" served fresh juice and cans of soft drinks.
Suppliers:
The suppliers used on this event were absolutely amazing they were helpful and always ready to assist me day or night, one change after the other. The success of this party came from them and their eagerness to bring my ideas to life.
All furniture and hired items were done by Anisa's, oh sweet strawberry and vividly vintage.
The beautiful birthday cake was done by Luvies bakery.
The miniature doughnuts by its baked.
Everything else was home made by myself and family members.
