Some scorching hot news from Mumbai - It’s time for another blockbuster celebration of cinema – Time for the IIFA Awards. The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend & Awards is coming back to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, for its fourth showcase in the destination, marking another landmark chapter in IIFA’s global journey. The highly anticipated 27th Edition of IIFA Weekend & Awards returns to Abu Dhabi in 2027 and will take place at the iconic Etihad Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral, the leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences in Abu Dhabi. IIFA 2027 will bring together two days of star power, music, spectacular performances and cinematic excellence, once again creating a global meeting point for audiences, artists, creators and communities from around the world. The IIFA Awards 2027 will be hosted by Karan Johar and Varun Dhawan with powerhouse performances by Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Janhvi Kapoor, while the IIFA Digital Awards 2027 will be hosted by acclaimed actors Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal. Together, they will bring an electrifying mix of glamour, entertainment and cinematic excellence to the IIFA 2027 stage.

The stakes are always high when big name stars like Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna agree to a project. These two powerhouse actors come together for Ikka, a legal drama that has many pieces of a difficult puzzle coming there. Deol plays a highly respected lawyer, who through personal circumstances is forced to fight the case of an arrogant murder suspect, played by Khanna. As the case unfolds there are many twist, turns and revelations that make this one a winner. Sunny Deol and Tillotama Shome are the stars of the show, while Dia Mirza also makes her presence felt. Akshaya Khanna is always brilliant, but his character feels repetitive. Ikka means Ace, and there is always excitement and expectations when the final card is revealed. Produced by the brilliant film-maker Siddharth Malhotra. Loved it. Now on Netflix

The latest addition to the Yash Raj spy universe is Alpha, an action thriller that ultimately is powered by the battle between India and Pakistan. When India decides to experiment with super soldiers, it leads to a world of impending danger and deceit. Alia Bhatt (who reminds of Lara Croft) plays a highly trained assassin who is given a deadly mission. But, it is during this mission she is re-united with her past and discovers painful secrets. Overall, Alpha is not a bad movie though some elements are way too easy and convenient. It has action and a story that unfolds with a few unexpected twists. While Alia heads the cast, she is confidently supported by Sharvari Wagh who does well in the action scenes. Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor are decent. Ps, Hrithik Roshan adds to the action.
