Someone asked me recently to describe what it means to be proudly South African in three words.
My first answer was a joke.
No DNA. Just RSA.
But the more I sat with it, the more I realised that it actually isn't a joke at all.
I grew up in a family that taught me one thing above everything else: don't dwell on what can't be changed. Take the lesson. Keep moving forward.
I didn't realise it then, but it's a value I see all around me in South Africa.
I see it in the TEAMS we work with too.
I especially see it in the teams that come to us because something isn't working. They don't want to dwell on it. They want to figure it out, learn from it and get better.
When the pressure is on, when things don't go to plan, when the environment changes, there is a remarkable ability to adapt, regroup and keep going.
I've seen it in BUSINESS too.
In our industry, the market never stands still. New competitors. New challenges. Years that test everything we have built.
BEYOND has weathered those storms more times than I can count.
We've found a way through every time because stopping was never really an option.
That resilience is something we've learned, lived and passed on.
It's part of who we are.
Maybe that's what being proudly South African means to me.
It's not in our DNA.
It's in how we respond.
