πŸ’” A MESSAGE FROM WOMEN IN CONFIDENCE SA EVENTS

There comes a time when silence becomes too painful.

As a woman. As a mother, daughter, sister, friend and a woman who has built a platform around celebrating other women, I cannot look at what is happening in our country and simply carry on as if everything is normal.

Women are dying.

Women are being murdered in their homes.
Women are being killed by people they trusted.
Women are disappearing and families are left searching, praying and hoping for their safe return.
And too many families are receiving the phone call no family should ever have to receive.

πŸ’” We are not numbers.

Behind every woman who is killed is a life that mattered. A family that loved her. Friends who will never hear her laugh again. Dreams that will never be fulfilled.

And what hurts even more is how easily we have become accustomed to hearing another woman’s name added to the list.

As Women In Confidence SA Events, our purpose has always been to create spaces where women can celebrate who they are, feel beautiful, build friendships, express themselves and simply enjoy being women.

But how do we celebrate women while remaining silent when women are being killed?

We cannot.

We need more than hashtags after another woman dies.

We need men to speak to other men.
We need families to stop protecting perpetrators.
We need communities to stop looking away.
We need people to intervene before abuse becomes a funeral.
We need survivors to be heard and supported.
We need our institutions to take every report seriously.

And most importantly, we need to stop teaching women that their survival depends entirely on how carefully they behave.

A woman should not have to dress differently to deserve safety.

She should not have to stay home to deserve safety.

She should not have to share her location every minute to deserve safety.

She should not have to carry fear everywhere she goes.

She deserves to LIVE.

To every woman reading this:
Please know that your life has value. Your voice matters. Your existence matters.

And to every family mourning a woman who should still be here:

We see you. We mourn with you. We remember her. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Women In Confidence SA Events will continue creating spaces where women can stand together β€” but we also want to use our voice beyond the events.

Because confidence is not only about how a woman feels when she looks in the mirror.
