Sometimes you have to make those hard decisions, and that requires being honest with yourself first before you can plan and communicate your decision to others.

Regarding decisions, I would recommend just make a decision and act on it. We waste too much time overthinking or a decision or hoping it will just disappear. In fact for me, it makes prolongs the stress and increases the anxiety.Rather just decide and act accordingly, even if the decision is ugly or uncomfortable, it’s easier to plan around a decision that has been made than to live in the uncertainty of it - COVID has proved this.

Regarding building your business, the best advice I ever got, is to build your business like you would bring up a child. Build it to be independent and productive without you having to supervise it. Once your business reaches that stage, it free’s you up to further develop and diversify your business. Entrepreneurs love to be helicopter parents, we want to be a part of everything, approve everything, roll out everything, and the truth is we cannot do it all. So when your businesses can do certain things without you, it’s a good thing, use that as a sign that you are ready to grow your business more.

My client fired me and that’s how I learnt that not all business is good business. It happens to the best of us. Some times it just doesn’t work, but never the less I always want the client to have an incredible wedding, and wedding planning is a part of that experience. So if it isn’t working, let it go.

Big lessons from this episode, was that I need to assess my clients as much as they assess me. I wanted to be producing weddings and events at a certain level, and in order to do that; clients also have to meet a certain criteria to be able to buy into my vision for their wedding day. Learning to qualify my clients really helped me produce some of my best work and avoid getting fired ever again!

You have to learn to let it go, take the L, and keep it moving.

My biggest lessons, were managing expectations, processes and communication. Those three things really helped me build great relationships with my teams, suppliers and clients.

Let me know what lessons you learnt while running your business.

There’s so much to learn when running a business. A lot of it is learnt on the job. I only realised while running my business, that there’s a MASSIVE difference between running the business and doing what the business does.

Doing what the business does, is straight forward. If you said you make cakes, its making cakes. If you said you did flowers, you did flowers. For me, I said I planned weddings and that’s exactly what I did.

Running the business however is something else entirely. It’s marketing, accounting, operations, quality control, Human Resources as well as customer service, and so many other things I probably haven’t mentioned.

A growing business is also another aspect of business management that is painful but should be done with precaution and care, many businesses have failed because they haven’t been ready for the growth.

Growing your business is another challenge.

It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and defeated by the running of the business that we often just end up doing what we do, and hope the business will sort itself out, but deep down we know it won’t.

My advice, do both. You cannot have one without the other. You must do what you do and run the business. This is where you need to start figuring our if you need help, and if so WHERE you need help.

Just writing this caption gave me content for like 4 other videos that I’ll record for , keep an eye out for those.

It’s so difficult to make the decision to leave your full time, secure, guaranteed salary for a business. A business that you know in your heart will work, but it’s just a big risk for your real life.

Things to consider before leaving your full time job:
-Have saving to cover all your expenses for at least 6 months
-Have some business secured that will bring in income for 6 months
-If you need credit, apply for it while you still have a job, Its much harder to get credit for a business in the beginning as there’s not enough history or consistency. If you can, avoid credit all together.
-Try jot down a business plan, even if it’s super basic
-Research as much as you can for different sources, to make sure you can be as prepared as possible.

Trying times!

Phew with no weddings anytime soon, I’ve decided to use this platform to share my business knowledge, tips and skills with you.

It’s a business I have already had running for a while called business basics. Of course I’ll sprinkle in a wedding here and there just to keep the fire going.

The big thing here is to share share share. Even though things are tough, this time can be used to reconstruct your business. Plan. Put in measures and processes. Grow. Create a digital footprint. Get registered. Get your books together. There so much you can do for your business now, the stuff you always claimed not to have time for. So let’s do it akere, yes!
