About Bra Wor’s Founder, Sekhabile Lekgoate: Sekhabile is an Awethu Entrepreneur who outperformed 700 other applicants to the Awethu Project*. He comes from Soweto, where he started his entrepreneurial career selling boerewors rolls outside nightclubs. The Awethu selection process lasts for a number of months, and during this time Sekhabile was held up at gunpoint while running his boerewors stand

. When asked if the incident would cause him to quit his business, he replied: “I made a mistake by being there after everyone else had left. I won’t make those mistakes again, and I definitely won’t stop running my business”. It was this willingness to take responsibility, and absolute determination, that distinguished Sekhabile from hundreds of other Awethu Applicants. Working with the Awethu team, Sekhabile has realised that South Africans outside the townships are missing out on an incredible cultural experience…the chisa nyama*. He therefore launched the “Bra Wor Chisa Nyama Experience”, a food company that brings chisa nyama to corporate offices and private functions.

*What is “chisa nyama”? For decades, friends in the townships have come together at the local butchery, chosen their favourite cuts of meat, and had them braaied on an open fire. This experience came to be known as “chisa nyama”, or “burn the meat”, and is defined by delicious food, laughter, and great music.
