What happens when you take team values off the wall and put them into action?
We found out with the Dürr Africa team.

We started with One Vision Starts with Me, then found our rhythm through 45 minutes of drumming. From there, things got a little more interesting.

Communication Maze put listening, curiosity and information sharing under pressure. One voice. One turn. No touching. No taking over.

Then came MacGyver Improv, where the plan didn't always go according to plan.
Because that's where teamwork gets real.

How do we communicate when information is missing?
How do we respond when someone sees things differently?
Do we step forward, make space, adapt and take responsibility?

We finished by bringing it back to the individual, with each person choosing one behaviour they could take back to work. And the Dürr team summed it up beautifully:

“The activities were both enjoyable, fun and meaningful.”

That's what we aim for at Phoenix.

Not just a fun day.
Not a workshop disguised as fun.

Why choose one when you can make a proper day of it?

Because your team has spent the year doing grown-up things. So perhaps the year-end should involve less sitting politely around a table and a little more:

Basically, something delicious, something competitive, something ridiculous… preferably all three.

There are two kinds of people at a year-end function…

The ones who grab the microphone.
And the ones who suddenly discover they have to “make an important phone call.” 😂

Our Lip-Sync Battle is designed to get both involved.

Because you don't need to be able to sing.
You don't need to dance.
You don't even need to be particularly brave.

You just need to show up, pick a song and commit to the ridiculousness.

And that’s where something interesting happens.

People who spend all year being professional suddenly see each other differently.

The manager is wearing a wig.
The finance team has choreography.
Someone has taken the performance far too seriously.

And by the end?

They're laughing together, cheering for each other and creating the kind of shared memory that doesn't disappear when Monday arrives.

Brim & Bloom: 47 people. 90 minutes. So many brilliant creations.

What happens when you put 47 people, a pile of hats, plenty of creativity and absolutely no requirement to be an artist in one room?

Apparently... magic.
And a lot of laughter.

On Friday, we hosted a Brim & Bloom experience where guests were invited to design and decorate their own hats. And the creativity had a story behind it.

Some made hats as gifts.
Some created something inspired by their favourite themes.
And one very special hat was created to celebrate a 90th birthday. Wow, what a milestone!

But perhaps the best part wasn't the hats.

It was watching people get past that little voice saying:

"I'm not creative."
"I'm not an artist."
"Mine won't look as good as everyone else's."

They got stuck in anyway.

They experimented.
They helped each other.
They shared ideas.
They laughed at the unexpected bits.
And, eventually, they stood back and showed off their creations with pride.

Because creativity doesn't need perfection.

Sometimes it just needs a safe space to play, try something new and have a good laugh along the way.

And somehow, that hour and a half flew by.

Then came the perfect finale: a spectacular lunch at the Fairway Hotel & Spa, with plenty more opportunity to relax, connect and enjoy the day.

47 people. 47 stories. 47 very different hats. One seriously memorable experience.

Thank you to everyone who got involved and embraced the spirit of Brim & Bloom. You made it what it was.

But here's the catch...

Nobody knew what the whole picture looked like.
Each person received one piece to trace and paint.
They knew the process.
They knew their piece mattered.

They just didn't know where it belonged.

This Sip & Paint was part of a Women's Day experience for Santam. A chance to step away from routine, connect, create and enjoy some breathing space.
