Certification - essential facts

Problems faced by the industry are manufacturers/service providers that irresponsibly use SABS Test Reports as evidence that their products are ‘SABS Certified/Approved’! It is important to be able to distinguish between a SABS Test Report and SABS Approved/ Certified.

A SABS Test Report Is:
Confirmation of conformity Assessment relating to a SAMPLE of the product!
The outcome relates ONLY to the tested product SAMPLE. (It furnishes or implies no guarantee in respect of a similar item that has not been tested.)
Results DO NOT imply SABS Approval (An unlawful statement implying an item has been approved by the SABS constitutes an offence in terms of the Standards Act)
Results DO NOT apply to any similar production/samples that have NOT been tested.
The report may not be reproduced except in full.
The SABS does not authorize the reference to “SABS Tested” on a company’s marketing material or advertising material, the publication of test reports and the like.
Valid for one year only!

SABS Approved/Certified can only be claimed by a manufacturer if:
Your quality system is assessed to ISO 9000!
Your products fall within a SABS/SANS national specification and regularly fully tested to the specification.
Certified companies are audited regularly to ensure continued compliance, in accordance with the General Permit Conditions!
