A massive boost for animal welfare in the Garden Route! 🐾⛳

On Saturday, 19 September 2026, the community gathered at The Acropolis Venue for a wonderful event organized and hosted by the team at Vetcare George.

A standout highlight of the day was a major contribution to animal rescue: Malcolm Hyman, Vice Captain of the Southern Cape Nomads, officially handed over a cheque for R75,000 to Sandra Gelhaar, a dedicated volunteer representing CAT Garden Route.
This generous contribution marks the first phase of funding, with an additional R75,000 expected within the next six months—bringing the total support to R150,000.

Running an outreach organization requires tireless on-the-ground dedication, and this funding injection directly empowers CAT Garden Route’s team of volunteers to keep doing what they do best: protecting and nurturing our furry friends. The funds are earmarked for vital operational needs, including:
* Sterilization programmes to curb overpopulation
* Food supplies for rescued and community cats
* Vehicle maintenance and travel costs to keep field rescues moving across the region
* Everyday rescue essentials and care

A huge thank you to Vetcare George for hosting and driving such a meaningful event, to The Acropolis Venue, and to the Southern Cape Nomads for showing tremendous community heart and making a lasting difference for our animals. 🐱💚
