Come and enjoy the next Saturday afternoon Concert of the St Francis of Assisi Simon's Town Music Society on 11 July 2026. About the performers:- Jill MacArthur is a versatile pianist, collaborative artist and educator who has worked closely with instrumentalists, choirs and ensembles for concerts, examinations and competitions. She is known for her warmth of tone, excellent sight-reading skills and intuitive partnership, being a calm and reliable presence in a range of musical contexts. After completing a B. Mus in Piano performance at Stellenbosch University she obtained a teaching diploma at UCT and embarked on a teaching career in various primary and high schools locally, later teaching from home in Bergvliet, and currently in the Deep South within sight and sound of the ocean. She is passionate about imparting a love of music to all ages, covering classical and contemporary styles and encouraging improvisation and creative music- making. Her love of chamber music has grown through the years and she now performs with a rare Trio combination of French horn and clarinet with Kim and Faan Malan, and of course as Duo Cantilena with Pamela Wijnberg on flute. Other interests include enjoying being in the ocean several times a week, walking in nature with her husband and other loved ones and of course, reading widely and sharing good coffee whenever possible!
Music has always been at the heart of Pamela Wijnberg's life ~ as a performer, educator, and arranger. She studied piano and flute at the University of Cape Town, and has since developed a particular love for chamber music. A special part of her musical life is her duo partnership with pianist Jill MacArthur, with whom she performs as Duo Cantilena, as well as her trio Viviamo per l'Arte, alongside Nerina von Mayer and Albie van Schalkwyk. Pamela is also co-author of a published Bach flute duo book enjoyed by players worldwide. She has taught at several of Cape Town's leading schools, and now teaches piano and flute from her home studio in the southern suburbs, working with students of all ages and levels. Pamela shares her passion for music by helping each student
find their own voice, and by organising outreach concerts for her students at homes for the elderly. Outside of music, she enjoys hiking in the mountains with her husband and teenage sons - a vital source of energy and inspiration in her life.
