Paris is always an inspirational theme for most girly associated do's. The extraordinary allure that this city possesses has set the tone for many events and the impressive lengths that planners go to to pay homage to this muse is admirable.

When mum-to-be Kayrah and her best friend contacted us regarding a baby shower for her impending arrival, we were more than happy to oblige. They had previously settled on a Paris theme with all the frills and flair but we discussed the idea of also implementing a "jardin de fleur" touch to the event to wish the final summer days off on a whimsical high.

Planning and executing this event in 4 days was a fete as various issues with the weather and venue were prevalent but thankfully, the final mood board proved to be a beautiful mix of a "milkshake pink" shade and the subtle yet comforting notes of a duck egg blue. Although not unconventional, the use of stripes on alternating tables and the dessert tables paired fancifully with rose printed tablecloths to carry through with the "jardin de fleur" theme. Floral arrangements and vintage hatboxes and travel suitcases made the perfect ode to a city of love and wanderlust and doubled as added height to the tables.

The candy/ tea tables carried through the theme of Paris and were decked with wrought iron Eiffel towers and various other themed decor. We especially adored the fluffy, soft snowballs or "madelines" that were part of the tea selection and were certain that th guests didn't leave without sampling them!

We wish the mom all the joy and happiness with her baby girl

There is simply an innate thrill that overcomes one, a sort of adrenaline overtake, when you are tasked with a last minute or "spur of the moment" styling. It means that all your 11th hour "gut feelings" are left to chance and any details spared is only through God's graces.

When we were contacted two nights before a nikkah and lunch, to provide dessert and dippers for a tea table and arrange a set of florals, the initial thought was how were we going to arrange tea fare for 50 guests at this hour AND style the table in just 30 minutes??? Well....Simple. We are blessed enough to work in conjunction with our gracious mother whose unmatched palette and attention to detail, compliments our exuberance and passion for events. We all know that little butter biscuits, daintily decorated, are excruciatingly time consuming and choux pastry frustratingly exhibits it's temperaments, but luckily enough, our mum managed to pull together an assortment of palatable fare for the host and guests.

We were requested to keep the tea menu "simple" and easily enjoyable by the older generations. The lunch invite did not include children so all treats omitted any bright colours and sparkly glitter.

The menu included:

> Chocolate choux with pastry cream
> Caramel and coffee marble cake with chocolate American frosting
> Strawberries & cream "traditional" Lamingtons
> Chocolate ganache fondants with pomegranates
> A selection of butter biscuits:
Strawberry swirls, home made Royal Creams, almond rolls, almond meltaways, white chocolate and coconut dippers, toasted oats and coconut crisp logs.

The florals were minimal as the setup was in a blooming garden, with an arrangement "sprouting out" a set of mirror drawers and another forming a cushion of lemons and creams from a trinket / jewelry box. Tea items were displayed on various mirror stands, boxes and gilded frames and the display was finished with a variation of cloth ribbon, ropes and tassels.

The Elite Life & Style Co. | 5th April 2014

Everything that you have heard (or dreamed!) about Blueberry Cafe Midlands is true: from its sprawling lawns to its minimalist chic architecture to the nostalgic farmyard living and its inimitable cheesecake. It all seems too good to be true but as you soak it in, it only gets better. This uncompromised gem, tucked neatly between glistening horizons and refreshing forestry is an homage to a palatable classic and comprehensivly clean living.

Our trip was intended for Fordoun Hotel and Spa (across the road) but clearly God had other plans for us. As we entered the premises an expectant sense of an ethereal wedding destination, picturesque countryside atmosphere and 5 star cuisine was what we anticipated. The grounds are as you imagine it: gloriously untouched and unspoiled by industry and promotional of a well maintained, healthier lifestyle. The interior is encapsulated within a glass shell of panoramic views and the decor and furnishings are reminiscient of effortless chic magazine covers with quirky collectables and dainty trinkets aplenty. You may choose to be seated at the tables or relax on a rocking chair with a neswpaper and coffee. We found many patrons gathering outside to enjoy the morning breeze and congenial farm-style settings. Of special interest is the large coal fireplace in the middle of the room. It forms the basis of many conversations and is an integral addition to the cohesiveness of the decor. Around it are large leather couches where patrons can relax and enjoy light meals or simply soak in the afternoon sun.

In almost every corner you can expect some form of servingware to be displayed for sale and home baked goods adorn the shelves and benches proudly. Flavoursome condiments, preserves and cordials are available for purchase and make lovely gifts or can be used as add-ons to meals and drinks. Brass bolts and refurbished farmyard items are scattered amongst the fare and bygone milk urns hold various succulent plants and knick-knacks. The plants add an earthy, rustic perspective to the cafe which prides itself on organic produce and wholesome, healthy eating and one can only imagine the moreish menu minus the grease that awaits.

The staff are admirably efficient and revel in your every whim and fancy. It is rather refreshing to relish in their comfortable demeanours and countryside exuberance and every now and then they visit your table to check up on you. The menu is simple and succint yet no detail is left spared. If you are a connoisseur of the sweeter things in life and tend to gravitate towards cheesecake, it is obligatory to sample the "famed" blueberry cheesecake. It's make-up consists of an airy, creamy filling that isnt heavy and overbearing. This is complimented by a crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth base and finished off with a tart berry compote, to balance the sweetness from the cheesecake. If all that you search for in a cheesecake is unfounded than really, look no further. As someone who enjoys a slice once in a while, this piece was worth the 2 hour trip and ticked ALL the boxes. Coupled with light meals and fresh bread, dunkable rusks and spreadable preserves, a replenishing cup of green tea and cheesecake at Blueberry Cafe is as they say, a match made in heaven.

Afternoon tea at The Oyster Box Hotel is always a good idea. Always. There really is no substitute for its unmatched elegance and old world opulence and when you visit you feel the uncompromised attention to detail and hospitality exuding everywhere. Before her baby was due to arrive, we gifted an afternoon tea to Razeena and a few friends, as an opportunity to indulge the mom-to-be in some pre-baby socialising and girly repartee.

Any person who loves the idea of tea, cake and a catch-up with friends will know that the promise of a timeless experience at the OBH is always one that is fulfilled. If you gravitate towards finery and luxury and appreciate service like no other, then pre-booking a session is obligatory. Apart from the necessary gracefulness of the Palm Court furnishings and the tender ocean rhythm, the casual chit-chat of patrons and the quelling symphonies from the piano is enough to make you want to wind down with a cup of tea and a decadent slice of rich chocolate cake.

Tea fare differs daily. The menu which we may have tasted today will be different to tomorrows fare and the day after. There is no mould for what patrons may sample as the tea service aims to rotate a selection of palatable desserts and tea accompaniments. During our afternoon tea, the main tea buffet was arranged with an array of flavoursome tea fare and potent aromas from the kitchens. On offer:
-bite-sized belgian chocolate tarts
-glazed fruit tarts and strawberry compote tarts
-pecan and almond tarts
-lemon curd cheesecake
-strawberries and cream pastries
-carrot cake
-vanilla panacotta
-coffee eclairs
-fruit salad
-madeleines
-cheese board
-chocolate ganache cake
-scones with accompaniments
-savoury items such as cheese sticks, mezze platter, savoury muffins, mini sandwiches and various pastries. (***Please note that we cannot comment on the safety of all the "savoury" items and whether cross-contamination was possible. It is always advisable to inquire with higher authority and be extremely certain before sampling products which may have been prepared in areas where un-Halaal products were situated.)
-Dilmah teas
-Fresh juices

If you have ever been to afternoon tea at the OBH, you would already be accustomed to it's charming tea crockery and replenishable accompaniments. The tables are always arranged to perfection, with nothing out of place or dirtied with prints and dust. It was made personable with a note from the afternoon tea assistants and styled with a bespoke range of Royal Albert servingware. To add our "Elite Table" touch to the surroundings, we displayed a few small items on the wall mantle and the table. (Despite) the large spread of sweet and savoury treats available (read above), we baked Razeena (an avid chocolate cake fan) an American frosting chocolate cake with pastry cream eclairs, Snaxels chocolate sticks and macarons, as a "take home" treat to enjoy before the baby arrived.

To book an afternoon tea or for enquiries, please contact the hotel on 031 514 5000. Reservations are generally made in advance and no "walk-ins" are allowed. Afternoon tea pricing starts from R220 per person.

We wish Razeena and her baby an abundance of blessings, love and happiness!

The Elite Table Events | 10 March 2015 | COCA Fundraiser | NMJ Hall

While the world around us seems to decay daily with crime and corruption, there is still a glimmer of hope left amidst the dreariness. This hope can only be met with the simple offering of admiration and gratitude for people who selflessly give part or a whole of themselves towards the betterment of others.

When we heard of the ongoing initiatives of the Durban based Circle of Care Association (COCA) and all that they strive for in society, we knew that it was a cause which we wanted to contribute towards. Their mission is quite formidable: "to restore respect and dignity to vulnerable communities especially women and children" and their objectives are to assist poor communities particularly child headed homes, with uniform, books, blankets, groceries, skills and self help projects. Their motives for social upliftment are also implanted within the necessity for the basic infrastructure behind skills and training development.

Their fundraising methods are colossal and they market themselves extensively, often requiring substantial sponsorships and donations. Most of the women involved have families and young children yet dedicate a majority of their time to creating awareness of their organisation and ensuring that they meet and surpass their targets for aid and assistance. Their most recent fundraiser was held on the 10th March at the NMJ Hall, Hendry Road, Durban. It was a large event that required "all hands on deck" selling out two batches of 100's of tickets. The event was based on a "food market" ideology rather than a sit down fundraiser. Ladies came at their leisure, purchased their food and treats and had tables and chairs to sit at or were able to leave with their food.

The Elite Table Events styled the entrance to NMJ Hall using COCA's main colours: black and pink. Our setup was fashioned around the foyer at the Taj Hotel in India using lots of florals in bright bursts of colour, mirror boxes, tassels, frames, antique teacups and saucers and varying glassware. Our showpiece was a draped antique chair atop the table with a jeweled silk cushion which added a classic touch to the entrance. Our contributory work inside the hall were silver branches for centerpieces and florals on the ticket tables.

We thank the lovely women of COCA for their valuable support and a long standing alliance.

02/03/2015

It is not within the facets of everyday life that you get to meet people that selflessly tribute their lives to enriching the lives of others. It is also a rare commodity to be moved to tears by the words and actions of these people {humanitarians} and actually be lucky enough to be in the same room as them.

Dr. Ahmad Ghandour is a man with a heart of something a million times more precious than gold, literally. He has dedicated his entire, professional life to assisting the bereaved and the injured in war-torn Syria. Not many people will submissively give up their creature comforts and their lives towards the plight of others. And yet he has.

This past weekend, he was honored at the residence of Dr Naseem Bhorat and wife Aalia, where the noteworthy efforts of both him and various other doctors shone through. His talk was exceptional. It was moving and uplifting, solemn yet hopeful. Together with help from The Gift of The Givers Organisation, they form a partnership of positivity and change amongst despair.

We were requested by Aalia to add a few minimal touches throughout the function. The function compromised solely of making us rethink the wasteful lives we live, whilst others barely receive half a meal and clean water on a daily basis. Thus decor and food were kept to the bare minimum so as not to promote wastage and facilitate over-indulgence in the midst of the Syrian crisis.

Leaving the talk has effected a necessary change within us, to appreciate the smaller, more important aspects of life: that a little hug and re-assurance can change the mood of a helpless widow or a chocolate and smile can assure a child that not all hope is lost in this world.

Apart from monetary donations, one can donate various necessities and items that our brothers, sisters and children in Syria desperately require.

Clothing, sanitary products, soap, toothpaste, new undergarments, food and a message of hope is needed by our sisters in Syria.

Infant formula, clothing, diapers, food, toys, educational items and books, body products etc is required by babies and children in Syria.

Please click the link for more information on how to donate towards the Syrian plight and make a desperate change in their circumstances.

As mums, we know that the second a baby is born, life changes! Time seems to evade us in the first few days and with all the excitement and joy that comes with a newborn, a stream of visiting guests and proud family members is to be expected.

No new mum could possibly handle the stress of looking after a new baby, herself, (other siblings), her family AND entertain visitors. Thankfully, most of us are blessed with mums (grandmothers) to assist with the baby but hosting continuous guests may often be overwhelming.

The Elite Table Events has now extended it's expertise to Mum & Baby Confinement Styling. {The "confinement" period is the post-birth resting time for a mum and her newborn.} For mums who want to welcome their guests with a special touch and attention to detail, a bespoke confinement setup is provided. We recently styled the hospital room for a mum with themed pink candy, dates and mithai (sweet meat) for her hospital visitors. Floral arrangements, bunting and large tulle helium balloons may also be provided on request.

At home, we styled an intimate room with a few girl themed items and provided a few sweet treats for the guests who were expected to visit the mum and baby that day. The informality of the setup meant that guests could easily navigate their way around the display and choose something to nibble on freely. It also meant that the setup felt inviting and interesting and no "clanking" jar lids while the baby sleeps.

Engagements, like weddings, always present themselves with many thrills and all the frills. Thus, when we were approached by the groom Ahmed's mom to arrange and style his engagement gifts for his bride-to-be, a wave of ideas crossed our minds on how to add those frills minus the fuss. Having used mainly pastel and nudes for the proposal gifting, we chose a more elegant palette (gold and pewter with accents of deep purple and fuscia pink) for the engagement gifts.

The first "Kuncha" (gift) comprised a pewter tray (available at Mr. price Home) with personalized towels and a Bath & Body Works gift set. We used a distressed look tin and candles from to accessorize. Playful starfish, a soap dish and handmade soap added the finishing touches and the gift was tied together with a deep purple rope. Open gifts are interesting as they are easily viewable and allow for a quick-fix if they come undone with traveling. It also means less fussing around with cellophane wrap covers and tape.

For the second Kuncha, we used a glass make-up box to drape the yellow Hanayen scarf and added a Charles and Keith purse. This open Kuncha was finished with a silver rope and wooden heart name tag. Again, the open gift allows for easy viewing. The choice of the gold and silver box was more suitable for this small gift yet complimented the pewter tray well.

For our third Kuncha, we used the same pewter tray from Mr. Price Home to arrange the tea fare, as the bride is a firm lover of tea time and a wind down. We chose a few key items to add to the gift: A selection of Rooibos and Earl Grey teas from Poetry (these boxed teas make excellent, personable gifts for any hostess or tea lover), a glass teapot with tea flowers from Poetry, a pot of honey from Peels, Sally Williams Masterpiece Nougat with Belgian Chocolate, Boxed Pistachio Turkish Delight from Turkey, Viennese wafers, a tea bag holder from , various tea condiments (elaichi pods, cinnamon twirls and cloves), lemon Turkish Delight cubes and handmade heart shaped sugar cubes.

The fourth Kuncha was a collection of the esteemed chef and recipe book author Mariam Mahomedy's "Cosmopolitan Cuisine" range. All six of her already launched, available for purchase recipe books were displayed on the pewter tray used in Kuncha's 1 and 3. Additional items included a ceramic cupcake with Ferrero Rocher, Toffee and Caramel spread with Pecans from Poetry, tea towels and pot holders, a utensil holder and heart spoon all from Mr. Price Home. Finishing touches included a heart bunting, cupcake magnets, a pink cat pen and a wooden heart name tag.

Kuncha 5 (pictures not available at present) was a Tommy Hilfiger bag with a collection of Calvin Klein perfumes and a "very berry" candle from Poetry. We finished this gift with rope, a pink tassel and a diamanté name tag. Gifts are always arranged in odd numbers, ie 3,5,7 items as even numbers tend to look unfinished.

Gifts 6,7 and 8 were all done in gilded glass boxes (available from ) on gold serving trays. Our additions were cushions inside the boxes on which to place jewelry and envelopes (for money). We completed these with gold rope and tassel work, pewter heart name tags and hand made crepe paper flowers. The glass boxes allow for easy viewing and transcend from the engagement gifting to storage or display at the brides home.

Earlier in January, The Elite Table was given the pleasure of planning and styling a Walima supper event. Our vision for the event was brought to life with the help of our lovely client (groom's sister) who had many wonderful ideas, but also allowed us carte blanche when it came to executing her function.

Inspiration for the colours came from the brides gown and comprised of baroque style purples, black and silver. The tables were done in a "black-on-black" with accents of silver and purple. By request, centrepieces were kept to a minimal: short glass vessels and rose balls alternated with taller glass vessels and silver tree branches. The bridal table was dressed with a beautiful arrangement and by request of our client, the couples initials were done in roses.

The tea/ candy table comprised of a rustic mithai tray, purple and silver macarons, a Croquembouche, baklava, a variety of pastries and themed handcrafted personalized "Louis Vuitton" Belgian chocolates as "take-home" treats.

We wish the couple the very best in their new venture and thank our lovely client for choosing us to plan and style her special event!

24/12/2014

Being in the event styling business means that we are often privy to being a part of the celebrations of life's milestones and precious moments with clients.

When we were contacted with the prospect of styling a surprise beach proposal, our hearts literally fluttered with excitement at the chance of bringing together a besotted couple, planning to cement their union with this life changing occasion.

We kept to the clients requests, using the breathtaking ocean views as a backdrop and the Umhlanga beach walk as a witness stand for eager family members and curious bystanders. Despite the ghastly (unpredictable) Durban weather, our pretty draped gazebo withstood the wind, rain and heat, all in a matter of two hours. Our brief was to keep the event stylish and elegant yet comfortable and laid back with touches of "bling" to compliment the "brides" exuberant personality and notions of red to highlight the "grooms" never ending love for his future fiancé. We laid out gourmet strawberries and non-alcoholic champagne and strew the red carpet isle with petals in the "brides" favourite flower, roses. By request, we hired the services of sand artists and a saxophonist who was efficient and entertaining. He serenaded the bystanders prior to the unbeknownst "bride" arriving and filled the air with his melody once she arrived at the beach. Her reaction was as they say, priceless and we are most certain that this event will constantly playback in her mind to remind her of how marvelously the occasion panned out and how dear she is to the lucky "groom".

To mark the occasion with well wishes and blessings, the couple and their family members lit Sky Lanterns and along with their hopes and wishes for the couple, sent them flying high into the night sky.

We wish our lucky couple and their wonderful family a blessed union filled with happiness and love and thank them for choosing a The Elite Table Events ❤️

If you missed it, here's a flashback of our playful Grandparents Day Event!

Each year, as an extension of our gratitude towards the teachers and staff at the Al-Noor pre-primary in Westville, we assist in setting up and styling the schools largest sit-down catered event: Grandparents Day. Each and every school hosts a similar function in honour of our treasured elderly family members whereby a show by the children is put on and a small meal is served. Al-Noor always seems to impress us with the boisterous kids, friendly mothers and exuberant grandparents in attendance and adding our touch is a welcomed pleasure.

Last year in 2013, we styled the entire event including candy and tea tables, but this year offered our "expertise" on the entrance table only. We were assisted by many of the school staff and mothers, which ensured that the event ran smoothly and was an overall success. The bright colours, tasty treats and crafty floral work were received with many oohs and aahs and a sincere amount of gratuity by all in attendance.

Our beloved grandparents are the greatest help when it comes to kids, care and life in general. They make the dullest days seem bright and remind us that you are never too old for love, happiness and enjoying life to the full. May they continue to be the guiding lights of our families and may we learn many valuable lessons from them ❤️

14/12/2014

Our events are rarely ever "ordinary" or repeated. Hence, when the prospect of styling a Burmese inspired lunch presents itself, its difficult to say no. Not only do we get the opportunity to work with generations of esteemed cooks (two from the Women's Cultural Group/ Indian Delights) and sample their highly palatable cuisine, we also receive insight into the tastes and fusions of Burma, secret recipes and valuable tips and tricks.

While the cuisine (and theme) are not your usual "go-to", it is fast becoming a popular meal time favourite and a rather impressive way to enhance and show off your cooking skills. The flavours are very "tropical" and include: pineapple, mango, ginger, coconut and lemongrass. A whole host of starters, mains and desserts can be fashioned around these refreshing flavours.

For the exclusive ladies only luncheon, a trip to Burma was the brief. The showpiece was the rather exotic, wholesome Kowse dish. It is a "layered" main meal that takes plenty of time and effort but yields fantastic results. Pasta (preferably spaghetti) forms the basis. To this a spiced and cooked chicken is added. No mixing is allowed! Afterwards, you ladle a generous helping of a coconut milk curry which forms a heady moat around your pasta and chicken. To garnish, the accompaniments are added. These include: crushed pur (fried), green chilies soaked in vinegar or crushed red chillies, finely chopped fresh onion soaked in vinegar, fried onions, finely chopped dhania and/or fried garlic slivers. Once completing the layering, the dish may be served. It is most enjoyable when eaten with most or all of the accompaniments (depending on individual taste).

To compliment the Kowse, a refreshing ginger cocktail was served. In keeping with the theme, all other accoutrements were to include only the tropical flavours listed above. Thai beef curry, coconut and lemongrass rice, prawn curry, thai green chicken curry and baked coconut milk patha was also served. Desserts included: pineapple and yoghurt dhai khrumbo (rice dessert), coconut ice cream (Ice Queen Gourmet), traditional coconut pateli, mango sorbet, ginger and litchi sago pudding (Rabia Adam/ Con-fusion) and a delicious piña coloda.
