R O N A in Black & White

Rona Singh’s inspirational life is marked by creativity, resilience and a profound impact on the lives of countless women.

The celebration was a beautiful acknowledgment of her communal impact, as well as the enduring legacy she has created through her children and grandchildren; a legacy of passion, service and excellence.

Behind the lens:
These images were shot in a packed foyer lit by a dim orange light. This forced me to shoot with my 35mm lens at f/1.8, which created the intimate feel of the images.

These limitations ended up working in my favour, which had me think of how Rona adapted to her environment, never allowing limitations to stop her from selflessly serving her family and her community.

I shot this at sunset yesterday evening with my vintage Helios 58mm lens. It’s a fully manual lens and I wanted to add to this dynamic of producing authentic results by not having full control of the outcome by shooting in jpeg and doing minimal editing. This allowed the lenses unique character and optical “imperfections” to set the shoot tone.

This lens choice was based on the visual aesthetic that Joel was after. Natural, authentic and creative. Joel is a deeply talented musician. Music is all about creative expression, collaboration and risk taking - much like this shoot.

I worked on a film set for a couple days, this past week. Our hours were from 16:30pm-3:30am, which is pretty hilarious, because I usually become useless between 8-9pm (just ask our Bible study group).

It was a fun challenge and it’s always inspiring collaborating with talented creatives.

This photo has absolutely nothing to do with this post. I have signed an NDA so I couldn’t use a photo from the aforementioned production.

What a full weekend!

I got to film Friday through to Sunday with the Italian stallion,

I also got to work with the on Sunday which was a treat.

blew our minds. That place is an Eden with a sea view.

Shout out to Sam from

This man is unbelievably hard working, he is talented, intuitive, respectful, bilingual, he’s an excellent drone pilot and he is incredibly strong.

These are all characteristics that I completely relied on this week during my two full day shoots. I hired Sam as extra hands on set and he ended up handling all the drone work and got a 7 hour workout while we shot an entire range of weights in the .fitness warehouse.

I was shattered after filming all day in the warehouse yesterday. If it wasn’t for Sam’s assistance throughout the day I probably wouldn’t have handled the drive home.

All this to say that Sam is a professional photographer and videographer, so if you are needing either of the above give him a shout.

Big thanks to .fitness and for the opportunities to shoot in your warehouse and factory. We always love working with you and your teams.
