Beat Bangaz

Beat Bangaz African DJ collective consisting out of DJ Ready D, E20, Azuhl, DJ Angrily, DJ E-Minor. Also run Beat Bangaz DJ Academy a Cape Town based DJ school & G-CAP

“The influence of the Beat Bangaz as a collective and individually cannot be measured across the African hip hop landscape. Pioneers in the field of Hip Hop DJing, radio and television programming, youth developmental work – the dents they cause within and outside the South African entertainment and musical spectrum will be felt for years to come,” Dr. Adam Haupt, Senior Lecturer Film & Media Stud

ies – UCT. The pioneering African DJ collective has it’s roots within the Cape Town hip hop culture that emerged in the early 80’s and the group has officially formed in 1999 after Ready D’s successful career as a battle DJ competing in the prestigious Technics DMC’s locally and abroad in the US, London and France. Beat Bangaz are a multi genre DJ crew with individual music tastes and deck wrecking skills. Combining these qualities are the ingredients for a longstanding collective career which spans almost three decades. Seeing the three mix, scratch and work together as a unit gives the live audience a unique visual and audio experience
Deeply rooted in Hip Hop culture gives the crew the opportunity to easily cross music genres during sets – taking the audience on a non stop music journey. As respective members of iconic South African bands like Prophets of the City and Brasse Vannie Kaap their collective and individual experiences afforded them the opportunity to exhibit their skills on international and national stages like Cape Town International Jazz Festival, KKNK, Pukkelpop Festival & more with numerous club performances. With a track record consolidated in international tours, radio, television, seminars and workshops - makes Beat Bangaz a unique South African DJ collective.

“The skill becomes legacy when what you’ve learned leaves your hands and finds its way into someone else’s. Thank you, Northern Cape, for having us. Knowledge shared, skills transferred — but in the exchange, we too learn. That’s the beauty of passing it forward.”

Nerves were all over the place on Saturday as our students delivered their final presentations.

It was amazing to see their growth, confidence and enthusiasm to learn more throughout their journey with us. Seeing how far they’ve come is a reminder of why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to our students for trusting us and putting in the work, and to their parents for trusting us to be part of their journey and supporting them along the way.

We’re proud of you all. This is just the beginning. 🙏🎧

Last month’s workshop at Artscape was an intimate session, with plenty of unpacking that went beyond the booth. Future Club Radio is a platform for DJs, by DJs, creating space for knowledge, conversations, collaboration and community. We’re grateful for the platform they’ve created and for the opportunities they continue to provide our students to learn, connect and grow.

Give FCR a follow and get involved. The culture grows when we build together. 🎧🙏🏽

Sometimes less is more.

Learning to DJ isn’t just about knowing the techniques. It’s also about understanding when to use them.

That understanding comes with experience, which is why we unpack real scenarios, share from our own experiences and learn from our students’ experiences too.

It’s about knowing when, why and how to execute.

WAYBACK WEDNESDAY 📸 Before the academies, the workshops, the international stages and everything Beat Bangaz has become, there was simply a love for the culture, the music and the craft. These old photographs tell part of that story. Different faces. Different venues. Different eras. Same passion. Beat Bangaz has been a journey of almost 30 years as a collective — built through friendships, parties, teaching, travelling, creating and, most importantly, keeping DJ culture alive. We’ve watched the technology change. We’ve watched the scene evolve. We’ve evolved with it — while always respecting where it came from. From the early days to where we are today, the mission remains: Preserve the culture. Evolve the craft. Inspire the next generation. Here’s to the memories, the lessons, the people and the journey. 🫶🏽🎚️🎤

Great conversations with Texpo 🇿🇼 participants about technology, innovation, and making manufacturing tech more accessible to aspiring DJs across Africa.

It won’t be easy, but it’s absolutely possible. We love unpacking conversations like these and imagining what’s next for African DJ culture. 🌍🎛️

Beyond the Booth — Why Conversations Like These Matter
There’s so much more to being a DJ than what happens behind the decks. Our recent Beyond the Booth workshop at Artscape was a reminder of just how important it is to create spaces where people can openly share experiences, perspectives and possibilities.

The conversation brought together different generations and voices, including some powerful insights from the women on our panel. We spoke about the realities of navigating the industry, the opportunities that exist beyond the traditional spaces, and the importance of learning from those who have walked the path before us.

For us at Beat Bangaz DJ Academy, these conversations are just as important as the technical side of what we do. Knowledge is shared, experiences are unpacked, and new possibilities can emerge when we simply take the time to listen to one another.
A big thank you to our panelists DJ Tate.M, DJ Eazy, DJ Alley, Future Club Radio and DJ Theia, and to Artscape for once again providing the space for us to bring these conversations to life.

We’ve put some thoughts together in a new article via our website so read all about it over there.

Yesterday, Beat Bangaz DJ Academy hosted another insightful workshop at Artscape, “Beyond the Booth” — a conversation exploring the possibilities that e...
