Birthday reflection: counted in trails
Some years are counted in candles.
Mine are counted in trails.
As I celebrate another birthday, I find myself looking back with deep gratitude, not only at the places my feet have carried me, but at the lessons each trail has left behind.
Some trails taught me to begin, even when I felt unfit.
Some taught me courage, grit, stillness, patience and respect.
Some reminded me to slow down, to breathe, to laugh, to dig deep and to keep going when the path felt bigger than me.
And some mountains taught me this clearly:
preparation is non-negotiable.
The trails have shaped how I see myself, how I lead, how I host, and how I support others on their own journeys.
So as I step into this new year of life, my vision is simple:
to keep choosing mountains, keep growing through adventure, and help others prepare for the trails that are calling them.
Whether your dream is Mafadi, the Drakensberg, a multi-day trail, or simply becoming stronger and more confident in the outdoors, you don’t have to prepare alone.
Train for it. Prepare for it. Earn it.
