For more than four decades, Yellowjackets have pushed the boundaries of contemporary jazz, blending technical mastery with fearless creativity. 🎶✨

Their CTIJF performance was a masterclass in musicianship; intricate, dynamic, and filled with the energy that has made them one of the most influential jazz fusion groups in the world. From soaring solos to seamless interplay, every moment was a reminder of the power of music created by artists at the very top of their craft.

A hundred years on, and the spirit of Kippie Moeketsi is still right here with us. 🎷🧡

This centenary tribute is a celebration of a sound that helped shape South African jazz as we know it today: bold, fearless, and deeply rooted in expression and freedom.

Led by drummer Tumi Mogorosi, with Muhammad Dawjee on saxophone and Nhlanhla Neville Radebe on bass, this performance carries Kippie’s legacy forward — not just honouring the past, but keeping it alive in the present moment.

These are the in-between moments, the energy, and the feeling of a stage where history and now meet.

Jasmine Myra brought a sound that feels like light itself — delicate, powerful, and deeply emotional. Every note carried intention, every arrangement unfolded like a story, drawing the audience into a space where time felt slower, and everything else faded away. 🎷✨

From soft, introspective moments to soaring, cinematic builds, her set at the CTIJF was a reminder of how expressive and transformative live jazz can be when it’s performed with such honesty and precision.

A performance that didn’t just fill our Rosies stage; it filled the entire atmosphere.

As part of our recent ‘From Funding to Partnerships’ workshop, presented in collaboration with the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, we unpacked some of the key organisations currently offering grants, mobility support, project funding, and development opportunities for musicians in South Africa.
