800 guests. Africa Energy Week. One big learning curve.

We recently completed one of our biggest events yet, and here are a few of my takeaways.

Corporate events are a completely different ball game to weddings.

In corporate, you’re often one part of a much bigger picture. With weddings, you become part of a couple’s most important day, and that connection is something I value deeply.

For this event, our team of 8 put in a combined 120 hours of work. And that’s before admin, planning and logistics even enter the picture.

We did it. And I’m incredibly proud of the team.

But it also got me thinking.

As a business owner who believes flowers should be more than just an add-on, experiences like these remind me of the work, skill, time and people behind every arrangement.

Flowers might be one line item on a budget, but they are never just flowers to me.

And I think that’s something worth remembering.

Our bride Caz had a clear idea in her mind from the start. We met for a cuppa, chatted through her vision and the rest was history.

Then came this message:

“Aaaah Amy, yesterday was more than I could have imagined!! My flowers were perfect, sooo many compliments. Thank you for hitting my brief spot on!”

Honestly, this is exactly why I love my job. Taking what’s in someone’s head and turning it into something they get to see, feel and enjoy on one of the biggest days of their lives.

And now, here we are in a whole new season, with a whole new bunch of couples and wedding days ahead.

Our conversations were always being broken up by bad signal and different time zones, but getting to flower Erin’s wedding was such an honour.

And then came the panic.

It wasn’t quite protea season anymore, and we both wondered what on earth we were going to do.

Then, tucked away at the back of my supplier’s cold room, I found her.

One king protea. Literally the last one of the season.

And somehow, it was there waiting for Erin.

The Simplicity of Ivory

There is absolutely nothing wrong with an all-white wedding. In fact, done well, it can be ridiculously beautiful.

My only ask? Be open to texture.

Different shapes, movement, petals, stems and layers are what stop ivory florals from feeling flat.

Because, really… texture is the spice of life. And your flowers deserve a little bit of it.
