ROAD TRIPS 🚘: This travelogue isn’t for the ’gram.
You capture a different set of memories from a trip when you document the days in words, photos, drawings and collected items carefully pressed onto pages. People have been recording travel experiences for thousands of years, but the practice of journaling can make even the most well-trodden path feel like it’s unique to you. Our editorial team (Andrea Behling, Maggie Ginsberg and Emma Waldinger) set out on our annual road trips — with travel notebooks and instant cameras in hand — to see how much we could capture while collecting advice for fellow travelers.

Also in this issue, Anna Kottakis reports on the health care landscape in Madison. This city is known as a hub for high-quality health care and medical innovation, but for many patients, the reality involves long wait times, high costs, and a system that feels dismissive and discouraging. Frustrated by the barriers to accessing care, some are turning away from traditional, insurance-based health care in search of something better. 🩺
Plus, Ross Harried captures scenes from last year’s World Euchre Championship 🃏. More than 600 card players will vie for their chance at the title — which comes with a title belt, naturally — at the third-annual World Euchre Championship in New Glarus this year. 🖋️ Andrea Behling
