Noises and Things update!

The Beatles themed podcast I co-host with Ken Michaels, Allan Kozinn and Kit O'Toole - "Things We Said Today" - will be back very, very soon with a new show. Poor Kit has been sick, so we're waiting until she feels like herself again before we record another fun filled show! The theme (I think!!) for the next show will center on those albums, together or solo, that we each feel need to be reevaluated and reassessed - the albums that today deserve praise after being dismissed over time by fans or critics. For example, from the day it was released in 1971, Paul and Linda McCartney's album "Ram" was roundly panned in the press. But over time, it's been reevaluated, and today, is held in high regard by many as one of Paul's best albums.

As for "Noises From The Valley" on WKZE radio... after two weeks away, I will return this Friday night, August 28, at 7PM with another noisy mind experience originating from New York State's Hudson Valley! The show will include a tribute to drummer Frank Beard with sets of songs by ZZ Top. Also, I'll pay tribute to the albums "Revolver" by the Beatles, which recently turned sixty years old, and "Graceland" by Paul Simon, which was issued forty years ago.

Unfortunately, for the second consecutive week, the Noises will be silenced. I am sorry to say there will not be a "Noises From The Valley" on WKZE tonight at 7PM. Last week, I was out of town - in Chicago. I guess while I was there, I picked up a bad case of the Windy City Blues, because this week I am feeling lowdown. A late summer bug has taken a bite out of me, so I will be out of commission tonight. Look for the return of "Noises From The Valley" next Friday evening, August 28, at 7PM on WKZE, 98.1 FM, 105.9 FM and wkze.com.

Frank Beard, the drummer of ZZ Top, has died. Frank died yesterday, Monday, August 17, at the age of 77. He was under hospice care at home in Richmond, Texas. His death was announced by bandmate Billy Gibbons, the only member of the classic three man lineup of ZZ Top who is still alive.

ZZ Top formed in Houston, Texas in 1969 and featured guitarist and vocalist Billy Gibbons, bassist, keyboardist and vocalist Dusty Hill (who died in 2021) and drummer Frank Beard. They issued their debut album, "ZZ Top's First Album", in 1971. The band enjoyed their breakout success in the summer of 1973 when their third album, "Tres Hombres", reached the U.S. top 10, followed by their first top 40 hit, "T**h"- a track from the fourth album, 1975's "Fandango!" - reached number 20.

Following Dusty Hill's death in 2021, Elwood Francis, Hill's guitar technician, joined the band at Hill's request.

Rest in Peace, Frank Beard.
