Ryan Lamb cared a lot about playing for his hometown club — sometimes a bit too much.

After a Gloucester home defeat, a supporter shouted that he was “playing f***ing Colts rugby”. Lamb turned around, jumped the advertising boards and went after him.

Peter “Bucko” Buxton grabbed Lamb by the collar and dragged him back before it went any further. Lamb admits the supporter looked big enough that he might have regretted reaching him.

Ryan Lamb says one answer changed everything with Martin Johnson.

After going into England training with a calf injury, Lamb was asked if he was sitting out because he didn’t fancy contact. His reply: “I play rugby for a living.”

According to Lamb, Johnson never spoke to him or looked at him again — and he was never picked for another camp.

Jason Fox didn’t choose to leave the military.

After 20 years of service—including a decade in UK Special Forces—he was medically discharged in 2012 for psychological health reasons. He had been leading men, operating in high-risk environments and constantly preparing for the next deployment.

When he told the military’s psychology team that he had lost his mojo, the decision was taken out of his hands. At the time, he thought it was unfair. Looking back, he understands the impact the job had already had on him.

It wasn’t the Hollywood version of trauma. Foxy simply knew he felt different—and had become far more aware of his own mortality.

Jason Fox says he was “sh*t at school” and saw the Royal Marines as his way out.

He grew up in Luton, had a dad with a military background and joined at just 16—before he could properly cook, wash or iron his own kit. The first 15 weeks were brutal and he remembers being deeply unhappy.

Then something clicked. Foxy found the life he was built for and eventually made it into UK Special Forces.

From stealing car stereos as a teenager to becoming an elite soldier—quite a turnaround.

Sam heard “How’s the farm?” and spent a day wondering whether Peter genuinely wanted to know how many cattle he had. He even asked ChatGPT to translate the Irish phrase. 😂

Probably not the reunion anyone expected after that famous exchange.

Jason Fox was trained to operate at the highest level in chaos. What he wasn’t trained for was normal life.

Relationships, arguments, money, children and the pressure of being present were a completely different challenge. Foxy admits he used the job—and the next deployment—to hide from the things he wasn’t dealing with at home.

Eventually, it caught up with him. He says the real failure wasn’t a lack of toughness; it was not balancing his life or giving enough time to the people who mattered.

Being exceptional at the job doesn’t automatically teach you how to live outside it.

Eddie Hall says drink and drugs weren’t the real problem. The moment everything changed was when he stopped swimming.

At 13, he believed he was on a path to the Olympics. Then his nan’s cancer, expulsion from school and the loss of the sport that had given his life structure all hit at once.

His mum eventually pushed him towards a local gym. Eddie believes replacing that chaos with training changed the course of his life.

Without that gym, he says he might never have achieved anything — or had the family he has today.
