Cabo Verde is a place of contrasts. Volcanic mountains rise from the ocean, villages cling to steep cliffs, and life is deeply connected to the ocean.
It has a dark and layered history, once an uninhabited series of islands colonised as a point for the slave trade, and later suffering from periods of drought and famine. Today Cabo Verde is shaped by resilience, migration and a rich Creole culture. You can feel that history everywhere, in the music, the fishing boats leaving at sunrise and the colourful homes settled in the green valleys.
Life here has a quiet richness, genuine warmth and an understated beauty that is impossible to capture in photos.
