TROPICAL UPDATE FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS
Issued: August 12th, 2025 at 6:30am
๐ Where is Erin now?
Tropical Storm Erin is about 3,200 km (2,000 miles) east of the BVI, moving west to west-northwest. It is expected to strengthen over the next few days. We are NOT under any watches or warnings at this time.
โ ๏ธ Worst-case:
Erin comes farther west before turning north, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, and rough seas to the Territory.
โ
Best-case :
Erin turns north well before reaching the Caribbean โ we would only see larger swells, rip currents, and maybe a few gusty showers.
๐ If Erin comes closer, we could see:
Dangerous surf and rip currents
Strong gusty winds
Heavy rain and flash flooding
Transport delays (ferry/air)
๐ What to do now:
Follow official updates from BVIDDM and the National Hurricane Center.
Secure loose items
Check your emergency supplies.
Know your nearest shelter.
Visitors: keep travel plans flexible.
๐ข Key message: Erin is far away, but storms can change direction. Stay informed, stay ready, and stay safe.
