In my world, it’s really not a priority to post every event we do. As a one stop shop, the expectations are visionary. In fact, I am rarely taking photos unless it’s only a styling job. You have to know that when we are hired to cater, it’s an entirely different scope when styling our food tables are a part of the request.
I tell everyone the most important part of your event budget should be the food. Often times, clients realize they’re spending more money on everything else that they end up asking their caterer to cut their budget. The venue and entertainment become the next priority. You can have an elaborate venue and the food is not great. You can have a casual and simple venue and the food is phenomenal people will talk about it forever. Your entertainment can be a whole band, a DJ or even a playlist with speakers with a mic. People will talk about the highlight moments. If capturing the moments are imperative, budget for a media team! We all love decor right? Actually, I have learned no we don’t. As much as I love styling and the details in it all, I often hear “I don’t remember that” when I bring up decor at past events.
POV as an event planner, stylist and caterer, I rather not take on big styling jobs when also managing the catering. Food becomes more important than everything else for me and my team. When you’re negotiating prices, don’t sell yourself short on the budget for catering because the bottom line affects your entire team as well. At the end of the day, remember what’s important, what’s fair and what should be blessed.
