🎙 Mike’s Microphone Shoot-Out!

I finally got around to doing a direct voice comparison shoot-out with my new BH2 mic (left) and my older trusty Blue Yeti Pro (right). Both recorded at the same levels, same cable/inputs and everything. Everything is input via my Apogee Duet interface.

I’ve used my Yeti for so many voice overs and auditions from which I did get TV voice work. A plus is that it has four polar recording pattens but I rarely use the other three.

However...

The BH2 only has one polar patten but holy crap - it sounds so silky and smooth and even, without coloring the sound in any weird way. It’s this great little thing made in Latvia with a hole in the middle (BH2 stands for Black Hole 2). But the tech used (golden drop condenser) is superb and seemed a lot more tolerant of levels and mic distance too. I prefer the sound of my speaking voice on this and will most likely use it for my audio book. But it’s going to sound great for singing too! Anything acoustic actually. Guitars and pianos even (could use two for stereo recording).

Admittedly the BH2 is considerably more expensive than the Yeti but the difference is so noticeable it’s totally worth it! Sounds like I just upped my game 👂🏼
