Q: Capturing the day on camera is one of the most important things for me and my fiancé, can you share any advice about how to make it successful?⁠

A: Yes, I can think of one important way and that is by being on time. You likely spent a good deal of time selecting your photographer. If you’re running late, photo time is one of the first things to get cut. That means you may miss out on all the beautiful pictures that you were hoping to capture on the wedding day. Photos and videos will be the best way to remember your wedding later, but if you don’t take time seriously, you’ll end up missing out on capturing those memories properly. ⁠

~In the end, being on time means that you get your money’s worth on the day of the wedding. That’s where my team and I can be useful: we’ll keep you on time and relaxed so that you can just kick back and enjoy the day with your friends and family.⁠

Fun Fact Friday: Special Edition!

Did you know?

In the Nigerian American community, it's common for couples to have two wedding ceremonies. The first one celebrates their cultural and heritage and includes all the traditional Nigerian customs. The second ceremony is usually held for religious purposes and is sometimes called the "white wedding".

For the traditional ceremony, the grooms usually sport an agbada, which is a loose-fitting kaftan made from asa-oke fabric. The color of their outfit sometimes matches the bride's dress. It's worth noting that the couple changes their outfits multiple times throughout the evening, adding some variety to their looks.

We had the opportunity to see one of our grooms in an agbada along with his groomsmen! Just dapper!

Q: My fiancé and I are trying to plan our wedding. I would like a wedding planner, my fiancé and parents don’t seem to think that we need one. Can you help me come up with some valid reasons that having a wedding planner is totally necessary?

A: Hello! Planning a wedding takes a lot of work and also money, and sometimes families don’t see the value in having “stranger” come in and help. Here are some scenarios where you may reconsider your decisions to not use a planner:

Whether you just don't have time to plan an entire wedding...

Or have friends and family who want to help you plan, but you know it's going to be a train wreck (and you'd rather they are able to just relax and kick it)...
Or have tried to make plans, but everyone keeps telling you what you want is "impossible"...
Or have seen the drama involved with other weddings and know you want NONE of that...
Or want help finding options that suit your style and priorities...
Or you've started to do some research and are already stressed out about all of the options – not to mention the opinions and "helpful suggestions" other people are throwing at you...

Q: I just became engaged; how can my fiancé and I choose a wedding date?

A: Picking a date for your wedding is an essential part of the process. Perhaps you're deciding based on an anniversary date. I've had some clients pick a date because it will be easy to remember. Before you can pick a venue, you should have at least some idea of when you'd like to have your wedding. If you don't really care, you may be open to deciding based on when your ideal venue is available. Even if you have a particular date in mind, it's good to keep in mind the advantages of each season.

Q: Please recommend something for brides and grooms getting married this summer, sweat beads rolling down the face is not pretty. What should they have on them, or nearby?

A: That is a good question! I normally carry handkerchiefs, but another good tip is the blotters that MUAs normally carry. I also have a portable (hand-held) fan that you can wear around your neck.
Finally, if all else fails, have them carry an ice pack or a cup of ice. That will work if nothing else does.

~ Having the bride and groom comfortable on their big day is important. Let's save the sweating for later on the dance floor. Happy Monday beauties!

A: When it comes to your invitation, there are options. Certain requests like “adults only” or number of invitees must be respected. Keep in mind the bride and groom must account for every guest and are most likely paying per plate.

Q: Is it really necessary to have a contract for EVERY vendor?

A: It’s important to know that the vendors you’re dealing with are reliable and will deliver what they’ve promised. Not all vendors are created equal, so it’s important to get a contract for each vendor so that all parties are protected and know exactly what’s involved.

~ Not only is it important to get a contract from each vendor, but it is equally important to read it before you sign it. I know that it may be a lot and it may even be boring, but unless you don't care about getting the services that you're paying for I suggest you read and then sign. Happy Monday friends!!
