Throwback Thursday: The Curve That Built a Community

Did you know Woodward’s Main Street has a story as unique as the town itself?

In the late 1800s, Woodward was a bustling cattle shipping hub, filled with the sounds of railcars, ranchers, and saloons. But what really makes our Main Street stand out is the famous curve at Eighth Street—and it wasn’t planned.

During the Cherokee Outlet Opening in 1893, a surveying error caused two separate settlements to spring up just slightly off from one another. Instead of choosing one or the other, they joined forces—and that curve in Main Street marks where the two came together.

From wild west beginnings to the vibrant center of business, shopping, and community events we know today, Main Street has always been the heart of Woodward.

History is literally built into our streets.

When we reach 25 comments we will reveal the answer!! 🎭✨️🧡

ANSWER: A NEW BACK CURTAIN ✨️✨️✨️

We have been fundraising to replace the old and damaged curtain and we met our goal. Trucked in from the west coast and delivered this morning, we can't wait to unbox and hang it on our rigging.

Our historic and treasured community asset receives a $110,000 gift from Bruce & Sheryl Benbrook and The Stock Exchange Bank!!

"It's moments like these that truly inspire and create space to continue the work for our community." -Exec. Dir. Candee Brossman

The Woodward Arts & Theatre Council would like to thank the Benbrooks and The Stock Exchange Bank for their generous donation and continued support throughout the years.

The WATC Board is facing adversity and funding restraints with Federal and State funding delays and cuts. The biggest expense and hurdle to overcome has been note for the roof repairs over the Woodward Arts Theatre. This single contribution has made it possible to pay off the note, gain momentum, and plan for the future.

Please help us say "THANK YOU!" to Bruce and Sheryl and SEB.
It is so exciting to partner with our community leaders and private donors and share our joy when we work together to achieve extraordinary things!
