It started out as a normal day at Betty J’s. Staff started arriving before 8 and continued in until 9am. At about 9:15 one of the designers came hurrying to the front saying “We’ve got kittens!!” Our response was, nonchalantly, “You ladies are always having kittens about something.” “No,” she said. “Real kittens. There’s four and a mama cat. On the back porch.” We hurried out to see for ourselves, and yes, there they were. Two orange, one black and one calico. Mama is orange. We cannot have cats here at Betty J’s because we get attached, Dillard Street is too busy and cats can’t be contained very well. The kittens have about another week to go before they can leave Mama. They already have their own personalities and are becoming more adventurous. We are hoping that, if there is an owner out there, they will come and pick up their cats, and if not, we are hoping to find homes for them. If Mama is your cat, please call the shop at 407-656-3526. If you are interested in a pet, also call our shop.

Because we work for a flower shop, we notice flowers. No matter where we are, if there's a flower, we're lifting our camera. This week, Libby, who manages the gift shop at Health Central, has been in Germany, where there are, of course, flowers. Window boxes, roses climbing up the side of buildings, in pots all over the cities she has been to. Some we can name, some we cannot, but names don't matter, the beauty of the flowers do.

Emily Dickenson said "Flowers are the poetry of nature, written for us." We love it when we get something a little different. We love the green/purple combination of the ornamental Kale, the delicacy of Astrantia, elegance of a Calla Lily, the uniqueness of Scabiosa or just the sheer fun of a Ge**er daisy. Some flowers are seasonal, some have to be ordered ahead, but if you need it, we'll make every effort to get it.

400 stems of white mini carnations, 20 bunches of babies breath, 600 white roses, a truckload of Spanish moss, cans of bug spray, band aids and lots of water. That's what it took today to create a woodland wedding, the vision of the groom. Our thanks to the bride and groom for allowing us to participate in this moment in their lives. And a big shout out to the Betty J's team, Patty, Carla, Sandie, John and Debbie for their hard work and creative energy.
