Many times, I wind up counseling couples that contact me, to chat about things that have absolutely NOTHING to do with DJ services.
Case in point, this is a recent conversation that I had with a bride to be, that was at that point in her planning, that was searching for a venue that would fit what she and her fiance' were looking for, in the Elkin/Mount Airy area of NC:

Hey Kelsey!
I absolutely service the Mt.Airy and Elkin area. I can give you some great information about good/better/best venues to visit if you’d like. The ones that I like/love and ones that I don’t.
It’s super important that you guys go with your gut feelings after visiting different venues and what you liked or disliked about them.
Some things to think about when designing your budget regarding venues:
Do they offer built in catering?
Do they have a catering/banquet staff?
If so, those are the venues that are going to offer a better deal when it comes to food, amenities and facilities.
Do they offer built in bridal suites for the girls to get ready in? Do they offer grooms suites for the guys?
Do they offer a great rate to reserve the entire venue for the weekend for decorating, setup/prep, day of show and ample time for cleanup?
Do they offer in house bartenders or do you have to supply your own?
All things to consider when searching for your favorite venue.
Allow me to share a tidbit of information regarding venues in the state of NC -
As of January 1, 2026, there were 436 “rustic barn” type venues within the greater Piedmont area including Mt. Airy and Elkin. Usually, those venues are nothing more than a big concrete slab with a pole barn put on top.
Many of those venues were actual working horse /stable barns that were converted to event spaces.
Of those venues, they weren’t designed with the bride or comfort in mind.
Also, in my experience, I’ve seen couples spend WAY MORE money on bringing in outside vendors to those venues than they would have spent on actual venues that were designed and built as “event venues” from the ground up.
Again, all things to think about when you jump into planning with both feet.
