Some weddings feel particularly sweet because, from beginning to end, they feel completely like the couple.

Becca and Jakob’s wedding was one of those.

They love their community and intentionally chose local vendors and meaningful places that have been part of their lives. They were married less than a mile from Bellissima, at Becca’s charming childhood home. Seeing photos of Becca’s first look with her dad and bridesmaids made me think about all the memories held in that home: learning to ride a bike, pulling her first car into the garage, friends gathered in the yard—and now, her dad walking beside her on her wedding day.

Her mother, who had spent years choosing pretty dresses for special occasions, was now helping her daughter with her veil. There was something so beautiful about the full circle of it all.

Becca chose a custom Anne Barge gown, combining the bodice of one design with the skirt of another. And then, almost magically, her sister’s veil was the perfect match—a little piece of family history woven into the day.

I’ve heard it said, “Your town is cute because someone took a chance and opened a small business.” Becca and Jakob seemed to understand the beauty of choosing local—not just for their wedding, but as a way of being part of the community they call home.

Their wedding was beautiful, but what made it especially meaningful was that it felt like home. 🤍

Three years ago today, this building was down to the studs and a few walls, and I was equal parts excited and terrified.

The most exquisite summer wedding, filled with the prettiest shades of pink, breathtaking florals by Joneswell Flowers - Grace Jones , and the impeccable vision of Events By Summer Joy . Every linen, bloom, and detail was beautifully considered and perfectly curated.

Mollie was breathtaking in her silk brocade two-piece gown by Anne Barge . Her grand overskirt created a dramatic, elegant silhouette for her walk down the aisle and portraits. Once removed, the sleek sheath made for effortless movement and dancing. A delicate embroidered tulle bolero by Lea-Ann Belter Bridal Ltd. completed the look perfectly.

And then there were the photographs of Mollie and her dad. 🤍

When he came to Bellissima to pick up her gown, we had the sweetest conversation about his daughter and their family. He spoke of Mollie with such warmth and pride—the kind of love that is unmistakable in a father who knows exactly how special his daughter is. It made seeing these photographs of them together all the more meaningful.

I’ve told this story a few times this time of year. The years keep adding up, and the time I have before my son leaves keeps getting shorter.

Almost 13 years ago, around this time of year, my husband and I took our three-year-old son on an easy hike in the NC mountains. Shortly after we reached the top, a couple joined us there. I was pointing things out to Grant, taking in the view, and quietly aware that the woman was watching us.

Moments later, she began to cry and started back down the trail. Her husband walked over, apologized, and explained that they had just dropped their only son off at Duke University and were feeling all the emotions that came with that moment.

I’ve thought about that momma often over the years. Recently, it occurred to me that her son may have since married.

I understand those emotions more deeply now, and I see them often in the boutique. I cry every time Grant starts a new grade.

As I go through school supply lists and start buying snack-sized fruit snacks again, I think about all the parents who are dropping their children off at college, helping them get fitted for tuxedos or wedding gowns, or simply watching them step into a new season of life.

Success at school, graduations, falling in love, weddings, and finding the gown are all beautiful, momentous milestones. But they can also be bittersweet for the moms and dads who have been there from the very beginning.

So, as we sharpen pencils, tighten backpack straps, tie bows in hair, or help a bride into her wedding dress, let’s remember to give a few extra-long hugs to the ones who made it all possible.
