Last week, Ann Everton of Darsombra tragically lost her life in a car accident while on tour. Darsombra has played Monstercade many times throughout the years, and had become a favorite act for our staff and many of our patrons. It’s not uncommon to see a Darsombra shirt in the local wilds, which would always garner a smile, thumbs up, or maybe even be a connecting point for a conversation.

“Did you go to the show?!”

They highlighted the power of sharing a joint performative experience. The importance of going out, and seeing a show, and witnessing a moment that will never again be replicated with other people…. That’s what builds community, becomes culture, and defines us as “human.” Traveling acts, like Darsombra, are more than a meme, and more than a 10 second AI video. They are cultural breeding grounds that help unite us with shared visceral and musical memories. They bring us back to connection, to conversation, and ultimately… to ourselves.

How powerful it is to say, “I was there!”
