Just like most other events in our lives these days, our Music with a Mission concert series was hugely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic this year. We had one regular concert with Bold Riley back in February, before the virus flared up here in Maine. But then we cancelled the shows planned for March, April, and May. And although we had a huge success with Hot Fiddle, Virtually Yours in July, our August live-streaming concert was not as well supported.
So, after careful thought and consideration, we decided to cancel the last two concerts for 2020, Denny Breau in September and the Heather Pierson Acoustic Trio that was scheduled for October 17th.
It is incredibly sad and disappointing to not offer live music in our sanctuary. But obviously we need to be safe and abide by the state guidance to help limit the spread of Covid-19 in Maine. We know this is a tough decision for our audience that has been so supportive of MWAM over the years. And it is especially difficult for the local performers who so enjoy sharing their musical talents with people who love live music. But we will try again next year!
Our MWAM team is committed to hosting live concerts again in 2021 – just as soon as the virus conditions will allow for the safe return of gathering in person to enjoy live performances. At this point, the timing is very unclear, but our hope is that by next spring or summer we might be able to start-up again. Our plan is to invite the performers that were cancelled this year to come back again in 2021. We will work month-by-month to gauge the conditions and keep everyone informed along the way.
Thank you as always to the members and friends of NWUC who supported our efforts for the 3 concerts that we hosted in 2020. And thank you for your patience and dedication to come back again as soon as we can all enjoy live music together in the coming months. Be safe – until we see you next year!
