🌈 It’s that time of year.

Our Rainbow Bagel is back for a limited time in celebration of Pride Month — and it’s every bit as bold, beautiful, and unapologetic as it should be.

Available now while they last. Come get yours and celebrate with us.

Last Friday, we had the honor of hosting Wilmington TALES for the third time.

The theme this month was life changing stories. And life changing it was.

There is something profoundly beautiful about a room full of strangers becoming a community through the simple act of telling the truth. No scripts. No performance. Just real people, real stories, 5 minutes at a time and the kind of vulnerability that makes you remember why human connection matters.

We are so grateful to Sarah Lester for continuing to bring this incredible event to our space. What you have built is rare and Wilmington is better for it.

To everyone who showed up, shared, and listened — thank you. This is exactly the kind of community Coterie was built to hold.

Until next time.

We live in a time where almost every headline feels urgent. Every scroll brings another thing designed to make us angry, scared, or certain about something we weren’t thinking about five minutes ago.

And yet , every single day at Coterie Cafe + Kitchen, we watch something different happen.

People come in, sit down, and just… exist together. The retired guy at the counter next to the young professional. The couple on their third date next to the solo person with their book. Nobody’s performing anything. They’re just having breakfast or lunch.

We built this place partly because we believe in that. A room where the noise quiets down. Where the most contested thing is whether you want the Ricotta French Toast or the fried polenta & mushroom wrap.

We don’t know what the answers are to the big stuff. We don’t think any of us do, fully. But we do know that shared tables have a way of reminding us we have more in common than the algorithm wants us to believe.

Come in. Eat something good. Talk to a stranger.

That’s always been the point.

See you soon!!

Some weeks remind you why you started.

This past week was our best week ever. Our best day ever. And our best month ever.

We don’t take that lightly.

This is a 20-seat room on West 7th Street. We close at 3pm. We don’t take reservations. We are not a corporation, not a franchise, not a chain. Just two people who believed in a vision, food we’re proud of, and a team that shows up every single day.

And yet — people are coming. From Wilmington. From neighboring states. From across the country and the globe. Finding their way to a little corner of Cool Spring and leaving full, happy, and already planning their next visit.

17 months in. Still learning. Still growing. Still grateful for every single guest who walks through that door.

Thank you for making this possible. This one’s for you. 🙏

Some reviews stop you in your tracks.

17 months of early mornings, obsessive attention to detail, and caring deeply about every single plate and every single guest.

And then Jack walks in for lunch, first review he’s ever written and says this:

“I suspect that someone with specific and detailed ideas of everything that belongs in the ideal neighborhood eatery has created Coterie to bring that image to life.”

Jack, you have no idea how much that means to us.

This is exactly why we do this.

Thank you. 🙏

Last week we shared our heartbreak over the fire that devastated Mother African Union Church — the first incorporated African American church in the United States, a 213-year-old beacon of faith, freedom, and community right here in our neighborhood.

The congregation has launched a GoFundMe to support their rebuilding efforts, and we want to make sure our community knows about it.

If you’ve ever sat at one of our tables, sipped a coffee and had a meal on West 7th Street, or called Cool Spring home — this is our moment to give something back to a institution that has anchored this neighborhood for over two centuries.

Every dollar counts. Every share matters.

We are beyond honored to be featured in Delaware Today as one of the 10 Must-Try French Toast spots in Delaware.

To be recognized by one of Delaware's most respected publications means everything to us. We pour our hearts into every plate — and knowing that it's being noticed is the kind of validation that makes all the early mornings and long days worth it.

If you haven't tried the french toast yet...
Delaware Today just gave you a reason.
Challah stuffed with mint and spirulina whipped ricotta, topped with house-made strawberry compote, finished with crisp feuilletine.

Come see what the buzz is about.

Our neighborhood lost something irreplaceable, last night. Mother African Union Church has stood in Cool Spring for generations — a cornerstone of faith, history, and community that cannot be measured in brick and mortar alone. Its loss is felt deeply, not just by its congregation, but by everyone who calls this neighborhood home.

This one is personal for us. Coterie is two blocks away. Our home is right behind the church. When the fire broke out, we weren’t just watching as neighbors — we were watching as a neighbor whose family and livelihood were in the path of what could have been so much worse.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the men and women of the Wilmington Fire Department. Because of their courage, their skill, and their unwavering commitment to this community, the fire did not take more. That is not a small thing. That is everything. They protected our neighborhood, our home, and our café. We will not forget that.

To every Wilmington firefighter please come in this week. Coffee is on us. We would love to personally thank you. It is the very least we can do for the people who protect this neighborhood and everyone in it.

To the congregation of Mother African Union Church — our hearts are with you. Cool Spring stands with you. If there is a fundraiser or relief effort underway, please let us know. We would be honored to help however we can.

Weekend brunch is almost here and honestly… we’re nervous. In the best way.
Every Saturday and Sunday we tell ourselves it won’t be that busy. Every Saturday and Sunday we are wrong. At this point we’ve stopped arguing with the universe and just started making more hollandaise.
Here’s the deal — we’re 20 seats. Twenty. We counted. And somehow, every weekend, half of Wilmington decides that Saturday AND Sunday morning is the perfect time to discover us simultaneously. We are flattered. We are also slightly overwhelmed. But mostly flattered.
We don’t take reservations for weekend brunch. If you’re coming with a group of 4 or more though, please — for the love of everything — give us a call at (302) 336-8884 or shoot us a note. Not a reservation. Just a heads up so we can at least mentally prepare. 🙂
There may be a wait. There may be a line. There will absolutely be coffee at the end of it. And a plate of food that will make you completely forget you were ever standing on a sidewalk questioning your life choices.
Worth it? Every single time. Just ask the people already in line ahead of you.
Doors open at 9am Saturday and Sunday. We’ll see you out there. Bring patience. We’ll bring everything else. 🍳
