Of the food I enjoy shooting most, NC barbecue has to be at the top. The heart, the smoke, the culture, every bit of it!

To go to Greenville, NC and not stop at is to NOT go to Greenville. When it comes to bark, brown, tang, dip & sop, Sam & Michael are absolute legends in the bbq world.

When I hear people talk about the “happiest place on earth” I assume they’re talking about . But I guess there’s some place in Florida with the same mantra.

Anyway, recently discovered what many of us already knew; that The Half is easily among the “Top 100 Sandwich Shops in the US.”

Native Fine Diner in Greenville, NC is unexpected and unapologetic in their commitment reimagining the dining experience. If you’re within a 500 mile radius of this place, start driving.

Last year I had the chance to fly my drone over Emerald Isle, NC for (I also came very close to losing the drone, but that’s another story). Usually, only a handful of images make it into print, which means a lot of shots I love end up tucked away on my hard drive. I’m trying to get better about sharing those unseen favorites, so here are a few to start.

When Covid hit back in 2020 I was in the process of covering several Carolina Beach spots for an feature. We had to change things up last minute because of many unfortunate closings. This gave me the chance to introduce Our State to one of my favorite burger spots ever, !

Recently they’ve moved out of the gas station and into their beautiful new location next door. Last week I got to photograph and feast on a menu that remains unchanged in the best of ways.

It began with a few disposable cameras, no budget, and a passion to preserve the memories of my travels. Over 15 years later, with a beautiful wife and a wide-eyed little girl, my dedication to capturing memories has only grown.

Unforgettable moments are found far beyond the scenic route of the Blue Ridge Parkway. They are found in the subtle look a father gives his daughter before she walks the aisle, the instant a toddler takes his mothers hand while walking, or simply a tear falling from grandmothers cheek. Every day is filled with these moments, but being there and catching them is an art. We take the art of “being there” seriously, while having a lot of fun in the process.
